Ok so I would dump some of my art in the art dumping thread but honestly I just have too much to show, so I made a thread. If anyone is wondering, I am self-taught. I've been drawing my whole life. I've never went to art school because I don't like being told what to draw or studying shit that I don't care about. With the lions,. I DID take some online course from Aaron Blaise! He designed Nala from TLK and did some work on Aladdin and Beauty & The Beast. He directed Brother Bear as well. So it was fun learning from an animator who worked on my favorite movie!

Here is my most recent peace. I made it for a friend who was hospitalized at the time and was sick. She's okay now, though. She LOVES ferrets. I'm pretty proud of this, I didn't think it would turn out this pretty. I think the fun part was the flowers.

A Mufasa I did a while ago. I have been drawing Lion King all of my life so I have to make it perfect or I crash out like Bob Ross.

Fun fact: Despite having numerous brushes for fur, I like to make things hard for myself so I painted every single strand of hair on the pic of this lion. The second one was just a sketch for practice.

I was or.. maybe still am idk, making a visual novel of Hazbin and drew this city, basically my version of Pentagram city or whatever. I don't have much motivation for it now lol

Holy crackers!
These lion pics are so cool. The way you make each strand of hair really shows the volume of fur they have, I bet its therapeutic.
I am the same when it came too self-taught I learned from experimenting and seeing others but that was when I was younger. Never took an art course or college classes.
Felt like a scam if I applied for college! Lol.

These are so lovely. 🔥 But for rendering you should at least look up watercolor or mixing brushes makes coloring a lot easier.

Whoa, love the ferret, I mean I love everything here! Yeah those lion pics are so darn good. That full face one with all the strands of hair? I KNOW you felt immense satisfaction upon completing that one lol.
Nice collection, & yup looks like that citys gonna take some time. But probably as much time as you're gonna spend on your next lion haha ::nyamcoawards

When I was in kindergarten, the teacher told us: "You're not an artist if you don't color in the lines. Fill in the white spots. Don't scribble." Honestly? I think that was one of the most trashiest pieces of advice I ever received, looking back at it as an adult. Yeah, yeah. Kids need to learn motor skills, I get it. But I wouldn't say that to children. I would have said: "It's okay to color out of the lines, leave white spots and scribble. Art takes practice and you have to start somewhere." Which is true.

I think that was one of the main things that held me back when I was a kid. I didn't do that line correctly or I didn't color that enough which ended up with every crayon in the box, snapping in my hands because I was pressing so hard to fill in the white lines. I've been drawing my whole life and I can remember how irritated my grandmother got when I would crumple up her printer paper instead of using an eraser because I messed up the whole thing. But, she still supported me. She wasn't an artist herself by no means, but despite my scribbling, attempt after attempt to get Simba right? Well, she picked up those crumpled piece of paper and hung them up. The picture that I thought was the worst? She thought it was beautiful. And there were tons of white spaces, shaky lines, etc.

I've taught myself it's okay to be messy. In fact, seeing the guidelines, the scribblings in these sketches next to references? It gives it spirit, it shows the passion and the process. So, relax. Fucking scribble. Make messy lines. Leave a huge white spot. Art is a journey, not destination and I believe that being messy is all part of the process!

Growing up I never had anyone support my art endeavors, it was always something I was naturally learned as I got older, putting a hour or couple hours a day on. Wish I had someone like that growing up, but I was proud of my bad drawings and felt like I could do much better each time.
Your drawings are fantastic, you build them up as you go is a fantastic skill to have. It shows in your work, the hard work and deconstruction in each. It's like I can perceive what you are trying to accomplish with each doodle.
