NFS MW 2012 is very overhated. It's a good game with a terrible name. It's basically Burnout Paradise with licensed cars. The name Most Wanted is false advertising, so people that expect it to be like MW 2005 will be disappointed. Many fans of MW 2005 just see MW 2012 as the shit Most Wanted, but really it's just a different style of arcade racer. If MW 2012 was given a different name, I think it would be well liked.
I played three NFS titles until now, and I liked all of them:
- "Underground", my very first one from the series, on pc, I got stuck at a race near the end because I wasn't able to win, but I enjoyed it a lot, I loved my shiny green/blue customized car and the music was running through my veins (I was younger and that was one of the very first videogames I had ever played)
- "2012 Most Wanted" on Vita version (that was the most modern console I had a the time to play a NFS) and I truly enjoyed completing all the challenges for every car, and sometimes simply driving aimelessy. Looking back now, the graphic is a bit blurry, but when I played it I had no problems and I think the gameplay, the controls and the "feeling" were great (in some other driving game I felt it a bit clumsy)
- "Hot Pursuit" for the Switch, again this is the most modern console I have now so when I turned it on the graphics let me "wow", I completed all the available races for both criminal and police and kept coming back to play again some race with a different car. Porsche and Lamborghini, my joy!
About open world, I found myself ok in "Most Wanted 2012", never had trouble to understand where you need to go; when I tried "Burnout Paradise" on Switch, and also some other racing game on psp, while appreciating the gameplay I remember I kept getting confused. I had to look at the tiny minimap because during races it was difficult (for me) to understand where to go, in fact I played for some hours but then I re-sold it.

hit it on the nail, it's basically burnout paradise 2, i loved burnout so i was cool with it but yeah it's not need for speed at all.
I still think underground 2 is the best NFS, i play it so much it's ridiculous (i played it literally yesterday!!)
Nah, it got the appropriate amount of response back in the day and for good reason. It's a decent game but at the end of the day, This isn't a NFS game and the fact that it used the title of one the most well-regarded games in the franchise was like rubbing salt on the wound. Like Rageburner said, you don't mess with people's nostalgia.
I kinda wish NFS would go back to the Hot Pursuit formula, though -- I played the hell outta NFS III, right up until my CD drive literally couldn't take it anymore XD
Honestly, I haven't played this reboot (2012 Version), but they say that the best versions of the game are the WIi U and PS Vita version, because they were poorly sold consoles, they are the ones that had the best reception by both critics and players with respect to the versions of successful Home Consoles such as PS3 and Xbox 360 and also for PC.
