With the push for digital, it's almost a certainty that the next generation of consoles will be digital only.

If this happens, I'm out of the pool.

Back in the XBox 360 days, I purchased numerous planes and paint schemes for Ace Combat 6. Their digital rights ran out and violá... I can't use them and they've been removed.

Not a fan of digital, if I have to pay for it.

I'm all for free digital games and movies that are given to me cuz I have "no skin in the game".

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop on the digital stuff I have downloaded that came with the purchase of certain games I have.

Are you out when gaming goes all digital?

Eh, I dropped consoles this generation already and even the PS4 before that I only ended up getting for Bloodborne.

The Switch still makes some amount of sense to me as I was a Nintendo kid and am willing to jump through at least a couple hoops for their games, but (modern) Sony and Microsoft (in general)? Hell no, be it digital or not.
PC it is. Both for newer games as well as emulation.

I don't have a preference anymore, really. But that has got more to do with games taking up such insane amounts of disk space now compared to just last generation, regardless if they're digital or not.

If I want a game in physical, I'll get it, but most of the time I don't really care one way or the other anymore.
The worst part about all-digital is that it's easier for Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo to have a monopoly on their stores and charge exorbitant prices for games, when you oftentimes can get the same game from a retailer much cheaper.

I asked a similar question some time ago about digital vs physical. According to the poll there, most would prefer physical distribution, but it somehow devolved into a piracy discussion. It was just meant to be "do you prefer physical or digital, or if you have enough resources that either doesn't matter."

Yep, same here.

Well... kind of. When it goes digital-only, I'm going pirate-only.
After all, the only difference to my mind, is that with piracy, I at least get to keep it if the servers go down.

Besides, what's the point of buying something digitally anyway? You are literally paying more for less. (When I actually took the time to look at the prices, the digital storefronts were usually selling games that typically cost £10 physically in a store, for £40 digitally if not more, and that's WHEN there was a sale.) Are people really that impatient to just go out and buy a game?
Talk about more money than sense.

Yeah, as long as storage space upgrades keep on coming and also doesn't somehow skyrocket in price, I'm fine with digital.
It's a pain for my Xbox though since the official SSD adapters are mega overpriced, so I can only utilize my old external PS4 HDD to store non Series S/X games, which alleviates some of the trouble, but the modern games are the biggest ones so it's only a half-solution.

Not really if I'm honest.

Honestly, I can see Nintendo still going the path of Physical Games still. Their Digital games are either optional downloads or small games. As for Playstation and Xbox, Xbox is just so sad at this point, I don't see another generation from em as it would be an even harder sell than the current Series X/S thus the whole "THIS IS AN XBOX" advertisement campaign they're doing where they're trying to brand Xbox as a Cloud platform that you can have on anything with a screen. Playstation, Yeah it's a bit scary that they're trying to push all Digital, especially with their Pro Consoles which I assume isn't being sold well since I can find them at my local walmart completely stocked up.

As with PC, Sadly that's a platform that has become all digital but Valve has shown how well they are with managing games always being part of your library, But even then the future potential with things going worse is always there.

Back to Nintendo, If the Switch 2 manages to keep the momentum of the Nintendo Switch, and having more power, I can potentially see many more AAA games being ported to the system or new games finally. Could we finally see GTA 6? Probably not but maybe GTA 5 at least lol. But holy crap I hope those cartridges hold so much more data and make it feasable that a 100GB game can be stored on a single cart with no downloading updates or any of that nonsense.

The point is that you wait a year for massive holiday sales, then pick up digital AAA titles for pennies on the dollar. ;) ;) ;) No need to worry about coming back to play the games in the future, either – they're all slop, anyways.

Microsoft hasn't learned from SEGA...

SEGA stepped on its own d**k when they started making and porting games for other systems while trying to develop for the Dreamcast... you don't give the enemy your star players or playbook.

Microsoft is now toying with the same idea.

i think we will need more hard drives for preserving roms, because every generation is getting ridiculous with the space games need.
