I'd like to give a shout out to one of my favourite video game YT/Twitch channels, newLEGACYinc.

My favourite semi-regular thing they do is the Royal Rumblethon, where they watch one Royal Rumble in 30 different wrestling games and the winner of each goes on to one final Royal Rumble match, usually in the latest WWE game.

They do the Rumblethon once every couple of years, and it used to be part of a 24-hour charity stream, but nowadays they upload one pre-recorded match per day over the month of January.

Wrestling games are pretty underrated imo. They have some neat hidden storylines, some even have choices. The writing is really fun.

I agree! They stopped doing original stories in the WWE games for a little while, instead having a mode where you play through matches that happened in real life.
I think it was an excuse to not put as much effort into the games, but they do both nowadays anyway.

So true. The whole history recap thing had mixed results. I believe 2k23 was the one to properly pull it off considering cena was on his swan song years. Mayhaps 2k24 and 2k25 did it good too but these games are getting increasingly more expensive to invest into haha!

My favorite original storyline was when there were two masked wrestlers conspiring together. It was either in SvR2010 or SvR2011, don’t remember. They weren’t luchadores, they were (I think) just Randy and Jericho in Ski masks and black jackets. If memory serves right at least. It’s been 16 years so I might be wrong haha!

Shoutout to also WWE ‘12 and SvR2009 for the former having a pretty underrated RtW mode and for the latter having a wicked licensed soundtrack.

The historical stuff is fine, but it's gotten a bit too same-y over the years. Especially when they started using more live-action footage of the matches to replace the animated cut scenes.

Yeah, I've been waiting for 2k25 to drop in price for a little bit now

The old SVR games definitely had some fun original stories and most of them had great soundtracks!
