I couldn't even complete the film. it's that bad honestly the Japanese films are way better ngl. 2006 to 2016 peak film trilogy and the fact that the manga creator supported/defended the 2017 film is still baffling to me like i understand the dude is probably getting paid a lot but still this film disrespected his original work and he's totally fine with it? wtf same thing with one piece TRASH live sction series and the creator don't care. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I dislike live action adaptations of animes/mangas in general.

I've never seen the jojo live action before XD. that doesn't look great . it looks worse than the 2006 death note . which is surprising that a 2006 film has better cgi than a 2017 movie .

It's just part of a money-laundering scheme. Do you honestly believe that movie cost $40-$50 million to make?
True you're not wrong tbh.

I mean yeah Netflix Death Note is irredeemably bad, and yet I find Willem Dafoe's portrayal of Ryuk as the one single thing I like about it. On a side note the 黒執事・Black Butler live action movie is one of the most baffling anime adaptations I'd ever seen. It's like a bizarre fever dream.

You cannot say that the Japanese films are better when there's one of those that tries to be a pseudo battle royale movie with Death Notes.

I mean, I know that the Netflix adaptation is not a fan favorite but it brings the only decent Ryuk ever portrayed in a live adapation, along with an interesting twist about L living in a world without Watari (even though it happens by the end of the movie, I would like to see how it plays out in the sequel that they are supposedly working on)

Wdym? the Ryuk in the 2006 films is the one from the original manga. hell they even got the anime voice actor to play him. also technically L living without watari was done in the 2008 spinoff film. but i don't think the Netflix movie is getting a sequel since huge backlash of the film plus it probably didn't make much money. but who knows Netflix is very dumb nowadays.

Yeah...

The only live-action anime movies that are worth a damn are the Ruroni Kenshin movies. Everything else is pretty much super duper cringe.
I haven't seen those movies yet tbh.

Honestly most anime adaptations have this goofy ass energy about em. i couldnt take any i had seen seriously, my first usual thoughts are how the actor can keep a straight face.

I was never a fan of the series, but Netflakes has a way to... Extract the soul of everything it touches, so not really surprised there.
Yeah Netflix sucks .

In other news: water is wet. I didn't even bother watching it. Plus, the Japanese live-action films tops both anime and manga.
👍 ikr the films were great, i was surprised how accurate it was to the manga and obviously the anime was based on the manga so the movies were accurate to that as well . the people behind the films were very passionate about their work. we don't het that anymore just lazy products or entertainment especially by Netflix these days .

Japanese live action are bad too but it's made for japanese fans and they love this sht.
The Netflix adaptations and live actions of every anime it's just for money laundering like contrail_ say, they don't care about fans or make a good product for the platform.

I mean i still think that the 2006 to 2016 death note love action trilogy is peak imo. but yeah Netflix really doesn't care about the source material of anything only money which considering their film was panned by both critics and the audience/fans. it probably didn't do that well moneywise.

Sorry I don't say the DN live action was bad, I forget to say it.
But most of the japanese live action are really bad for the normal movie and look more like a cheap parody like the Uwe Boll's movies.

Honestly, City Hunter (1993) is my favorite live action anime adaptation, besides the two Nana films.
I thought "L Change the World" was pretty good, then again it was directed by Hideo Nakata.

I’m surprised to find out the people who made that horrible Netflix Death Note live action aren’t the ones who made that sh-tfest Dragon Ball Evolution. That’s how bad that f—king movie is.

I wouldn't go that far. We still get good stuff, but it's matter of being invested or interested. I am not coming to the defense of Netflix, nor their ever increasing prices, but they got plenty of good original action films/tv shows and animated films I enjoy. I don't care for every single thing on the platform, thank Christ, but I like the live-action adaption of Yu Yu Hakusho, and both Castlevania shows. K-Pop Demon Hunters is cool, but I am not the target audience for it. That's okay though. I heard live-action One Piece is great, but I don't like One Piece, and stopped caring for the actual anime/manga in 2008.

While this isn't Netflix, Amazon Prime has some good stuff, but I am mainly watching Invincible or New Panty and Stocking. Waiting on Spider-Noir. Primal is getting another season on MAX (I will go to a free streaming site for that) I know there is a bunch of terrible crap on these streaming platforms, but I ignore them and avoid them. Any show or film I do enjoy from these, I get the physical version, if it's released or distributed by someone else. I hate Disney+, but I only go there for Daredevil and that new Punisher show coming out later next month. Here's hoping they bring back all of the Netflix crew. Iron Fist they can keep, or just revamp the character.

I guess, i stopped watching stuff after 2023 because I'm busy catching up on old stuff i either never saw before or rewatching stuff i liked a few years ago. but unfortunately i did watch sinners 2025 and it sucked so idk if entertainment has gotten better tbh.

sinners 2025
That is an awesome movie. I don't know why you didn't like it or what didn't work for you, but that is a Michael B. Jordan masterpiece. And even if it was bad, or I considered it bad, it's not gonna stop me from seeing what else is on the horizon. One bad piece of media or whatever not gonna stop me from watching other things or experience new things.

Death note
Onc Piece

All does western live action anime are utterly trash also dear god One Piece looks so fucking ass I seen better fan videos on youtube that has like no million dollar budget behind them.

I never hate on peoples taste but if you like that live action adaption im feel sorry for ya having taste buds in you ass.

I hate sinners because it portrays black people as nothing but degenerate's and ofc the men just wanna only have sex and the fact that they discriminate against anybody who isn't black. example- the vampires aren't let in solely because of their skin color even though they can play music but the thing is the main characters didn't even know if they were dangerous or not but refuse to let them in anyway . the Asian lady is the weak link later on in the film simply for wanting her daughter back because the vampires took her granted it seems that this movie portrays asians as irresponsible too considering they LEAVE THEIR DAUGHTER ALONE IN THEIR STORE FOR DAYS . basically the writers are saying don't trust anyone that's not your skin color which is racist. and the "black culture" scene alone where they portray blacks has degenerates again with tweaking(which is a very sexual/slut dance btw extremely inappropriate), it's just very disrespectful to black people in general not everyone wants to be seen as a degenerate . but now more people worldwide will think blacks are just freaks and crimers(considering the two main characters are THIEF'S). as a black woman myself I'm disgusted by this film in general it just makes normal black people look bad. which isn't good we already have a bad reputation as is! sorry for long rant .
