Neo. Geo.

Used to play a lot of kawaks online with friends back then, often neo geo games like metal slug or kof.. it was really something else.

Metal slug is still a classic to have instant fun.

One of those systems I'd love to track down and buy an everdrive of some kind for (if they exist) if I had the money. It doesn't beat out the Turbografx 16/CD as my favorite "non-main" system of that era, but man if I was a kid and I knew someone who had it I would have probably been sooooo jealous that someone had the arcade in their home.

i think this is the first neo geo game i played, the console have some good shmups too.

I grew up playing Neo Geo MVS arcade games in the 90s. KoF 95, 96, 97, 98, Metal Slug 1,2, Samurai Shodown 1,2, World Heroes, King of Monsters 1,2, Neo Turf Master, Bust-A-Move 1,Again. The last game I played was SVC: Chaos / SNK vs. Capcom in person in 2003.

I knew very little about the home console AES and CD, never seen any cartridges in person or knew anyone who owned one. Although I was there when Neo Geo Pocket (and Color) released in North America, I was on the fence on owning own, which I ended up skipping (these days it's on my bucket list to own with a complete ROM set).

The last two decades I've been enjoying its library of games though emulation, especially on GGPO/FC2. My favorite games are Twinkle Star Sprites (72hr playing online), Real Bout Fatal Fury series & Garou Mark of the Wolves, Rage of the Dragons, Magical Drop 1-3, The Last Blade 1,2, Breakers Revenge, Waku Waku 7, Power Instinct Matrimelee, Windjammers, Money Puzzle Exchanger, Shock Troopers 1,2, and unreleased game Ghost Lop. The last game I played and finished was Ironclad on NGCD.

Nowadays, every time I hear someone say they play a fighting game.:
"Oh, I use modern controls..."

Yeah.... We didn't get that luxury. "Oh you can't get the moves? Too bad! Aw can't do the supers? Now you're really screwed!" Excuse my shitty writing on these old pieces of paper:

I have a Neo Geo Mini-Cade that somehow got donated at work and nobody bought except me (which I thank god that it only really powers on through USB-C). Would love to flash it with the entire systems' library, but lack the technical know-how. Not really big into Fighting games, but I did love and enjoy "Kizuna Encounter" "Last Blade 1 and 2" and "Real Bout Fatal Fury 2". It's kind of strange, but totally understandable, that the console is mainly known for and only known for fighting games. I feel like the system has some great titles beyond that particular genre and not just Metal Slug (though that is a good one)

I was just at a retro gaming convention this past weekend, and one of the vendors had a Neo Geo X. I'll admit I don't know much about it, or the Neo Geo platform itself. I don't think I've ever seen an AES or Neo Geo CD unit in my life, and I've only seen a NGPC on sale once

Speak of the devil, there's a new Neo Geo handheld

$70/€60/£50. Out now, comes with 14 games and also supports Evercade cartridges, huh

The Neo Geo FPGA core one of the best reasons to use a Mister stack.

It's as good as the real hardware with the universe bios, it can run CD images so you can play Samurai Shodown RPG, it's a lot more affordable than buying an old AES, or the consolized MVS kits from China, extra scalers to get them displaying right, and pairing them up with crappy flash carts you swap roms in and out of.

It's better than buying a NGCD and putting the ODE kit into it for sd cards.

You can buy 8bitdo Neo Geo CD style pads now that have the proper button placements, and microswitches in the thumb stick to make it even closer to the real thing.

I never seen the home system but did see the awesome red arcade machine. It wasnt until emulation got popular that I got to play many of these awesome games.
