the neo geo is one of the video game consoles i know the least about and have encountered the most rarely
however, i am a pretty lightweight but passionate snk fan, so i own quite a few of their gamezors on sega saturn
the neo geo seemed to be the garden in which many of snk's greatest franchises were cultivated

One of the best discoveries i had with emulation, fantastic games, fighting games are still top notch.

King of fighters series is still my favorite.

Never saw anyone with one in my youth, too poor :loldog

Never saw the console back when it was relevant. Though the mvs versions were quite common in the arcades I frequented, Metal Slug 2, the orochi saga King of fighters, super sideckicks series and Samurai Shodown series were the most common. Also briefly saw that Neo Geo 64 Buriki One, fighting game around January 2000.

One the things that always rubbed me the wrong way from day one when I got it all those moons ago. There's no stereo sound plug on the back. Its mono.
Want stereo sound fucker? You got get one of those headphone plugs to go to stereo plugs for the TV. Just like the gen 1 Genesis systems if you wanted stereo sound.
I was "As much as I spent on this, it's fucking mono sound?"
Had to go to Radio Shack to buy the damn plug. "Do you guys even remember Radio Shack? Christ I'm old."

i had no idea it was mono only thats really surprising to me
i remember the snes being stereo and like putting my ears to either side of the tv to see which sounds came from which side in games like mario world

Found the KOF\SNK\NEOGEO appreciation thread. I am in the right spot. For the last few years I have put everything on the back burner to play SNK's library and mainly get better at KOF. Was plating Mark of the Wolves heavy before City of the Wolves came out and can't put it down. Still trying to find time to play old school KOF. 98 is an addiction of mine.

i dont think these are actually real and instead they are part of a collective dream we are all having.

if i ever get my hands on one, its going in a glass case, never to face oxygen or harmful uv rays.

how is city of the wolves?
i used to play gato a healthy amount in mark of the wolves
Very fun to play. A mondern MotW in my opinion. Easy to pick up but hard to master and has just the right amount of offense and defensive options where everyone feels pretty balanced. Also a healthy amount of single player content with the Episodes of Southtown mode.

I read about it at the time in game magazines but to this day I've never seen the console in real life, not even at gaming events, on the other hand those KOF 97 and 98 arcades were simply everywhere. I have always sucked at fighting games to play in the arcades but I remember spending hours emulating them after high school trying to beat KOF94 to 99 and specially Garou just for the story. And man, those old KOF cover arts are beautiful.

I ( nearly ) always pick Kim, Takuma ( or ryo if not available ) and Ralph

Yup ! it was my emulator to play neo geo or some Capcom system games back then ( with the online option to play with friends )
I killed many hours on that emulator, pretty good, all things considering

Ah yes. My whitest of white whales. Knowing me, I’ll go for the CD, since I never expect to have the main NEO GEO in my price range.

That said, I think I may actually go for asking around about old MVS cabinets people may want taken off their hands. The idea of working on an arcade cabinet restoration project sounds like fun! Though, in this economy, maybe not the best idea.

Still, love the NEO GEO. Emulation is my friend for its library, but if I ever come across a real one in the wild, I’ll post about it here.
