Needing an advice for Etrian Odyssey

(Note: I am still unsure if I post this in the right place. If it isn't, let me know about it)

It's been quite few years that I haven't touched Etrian Odyssey. In fact, I still remember how punishing the game was, even in the early game. I also checked my last save file and it's stuck on the first fourth floor (due the game's brutality). So, I'd like to start over, and looking for few advice and tips for better progression.

i forget if the original (DS) versions had difficulty settings, probably not.
EO untold the 3ds remakes have 3 difficulty settings, expert is the original difficulty on DS,
the HD versions of 1-3 also have 3 difficulties, but a MUCH easier picnic mode

and DEFINITELY play on an emulator, so you can save state anywhere

i recommend EO untold on story mode and "standard" which is easier than DS version, but you'll still die just not as brutally as the original DS, it felt like a 'Normal JRPG" at that point. as in like SNES/PS1 JRPG normal. that's the only game in the entire series i played.

the only reason i played EO 1 untold, was because Metaphor refantazio has a map directly from etrian odyssey 1

Ah I am a huge fan of Etrian Odyssey but I've never played the first one on DS. I can't give any advice on that one, sorry.

Just grind. A lot. It might be better for alchemists to specilize in one element each. Although I'm not sure if that's what everyone should do. I tried replaying it awhile back and I died a lot.
