Hi,

I've been running OPL on my PS2 for a few days now, got it working fine by copying games ISO's using OPLUtil tool and I wanted some help to run PS1 games on it.

From what I've read and seen in some tutorial videos/etc it is possible to run PS1 games using OPL but I can't get them to work. What I did was basically the same process as I did for PS2 games, downloaded the CD files from the repo, converted to ISO using OPLUtil and then tried "burning" them to my flash drive but it always gives me an error (generic, no further information or log I could find).

If anyone could advise me on how to properly do it or some other tools that would be helpful, I'll be thankful as I didn't find any clear tutorial for that.

I'm using OPL version 1.2.0.

I used "POPStarter Game Installer for OPL." It would convert ISOs or a .cue and single .bin file to a format on the external drive I use that OPL would recognize. It wouldn't work with multiple .bin files. I used OPL anniversary edition.

Hello,
I'm using DKWDRV, you can just simply use your .bin files.

1. use uLaunchElf
2. open dkwdrv elf file from pendrive
3. select "Select USB game"
4. from the list select your game
5. done

I'm not sure if all games are working and which versions of PS2 are supported, I've SCPH-90004CB

Edit. Forgot to mention that games should be placed in the specific directory on the pendrive

This is what I have used to get PS1 games to run in OPL, but as mentioned it only works on games that have a single .bin file.

Tried this for the simplicity and it worked, thanks!

Thanks for this. This works like a charm.

Also, took me long enough to figure out I could just rename the .elf and .vcd files as long as they are the same.

Does popstarter use emulation or do they run natively?

The only (relatively) reliable way I have been able to set up POPSTARTER to run games successfully is to install PS2BBN. The definitive English patch by CosmicScale is quite amazing, and is being actively developed. Some of my favorites don't play well this way either. It's the nature of the emulator, it's wasn't designed or optimized to be an all-purpose PS1 emulator.

If I recall correctly, the only way OPL can do it is through USB, which is spotty, at best. None of the games I enjoy playing run smoothly, often longer loading times than the discs themselves. Totally not worth the headache.

It's worth noting that OPL sees POPSTARTER as an 'app,' so you need to make sure they're enabled in OPL settings and then actually tab over to apps when you're looking at your games list.

While I do truly appreciate the work & effort put into POPSTARTER over the years by the many talented folk, I'd argue it's also one of the worst rabbitholes I've gone down for the system.

I always found POPSTARTER required a lot of effort just to simply get some emulated games running, where the compatibility isn't even that hot. Sure, you can get extra features like 480p & others, but it also means you have to convert every game beforehand, on top of setting it up correctly for OPL.

POPSTARTER may have had a use when the only method to play PS1 games on a FMCB-only system was by disc swapping, but ever since MechaPwn released I've simply installed that, burn my games, & never looked back.

Even the new Alien Resurrection cheat code would be a lot more convenient than any popstarter setup!

I agree. POPSTARTER for me has always been a pain in the ass at best, a waste of time at worst. I'm glad it's out there and and can at least let some people play some things they might not otherwise, but for me I got sick of screwing with it and went to burning discs to emulating, and eventually to a psx ode.
