I will get the ball rolling with Aldoah Zero, a Zone of the endears inspired anime said to be written by Gen Urobuchi, only for him to have designed the story and left them to it after episode 3.

Do not get me wrong, i like the show, but it became Mid for me very quickly.

Whoa, my favorite Kirby boss and some cool anime girl?! Guess I'll watch the first episode of that anime!

Worst mistake of my life, ruined the wallpaper for me.

For me it’s the 1999 mecha anime movie Gundress.
What made me wanna watch it is because the character and mecha design was done by Shirow Masamune creator of Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed.
How they got him to work on this project still baffles me. The fact that the anime has gunslinging waifus and giant mechas should have been a hit but the producers screwed it up with a lousy plot and janky animation that looks primitive for it’s time.

Darling in the in th trash conned me in to watching taught it would be a good mech anime but instead it was top teir trash that made me quit after ep 5.

Sword art online taught it would be good .hack like anime but with darker story but I ended up with a harem anime with 2 MC dumber than a train.

Edge runner conned me in to thinking I would get a good anime with a good story ended up being a good anime where the MC destroyed it all by being dumber than a box of fish sticks which made me hate the anime.

watched it all the way to the end, so fucking disappointed cos he hardly got any screentime, and whenever he did, he'd lose to goddamn cramps <--- absolute bullshit

There is no way Aldnoah Zero was insipired by Zone of Enders. Two completely different topics, introduction and themes in these two types. Are people just throwing the term ZoE around like a brochure?
If anything its inspired by Mobile Suit Gundam. Same themes and topics.
ZoE is a "boy gets caught in war by accident" vs Aldnoah Zero "Lmao im on a training mech and i have a super 200 IQ brain for some reason"

Sunohara-sou no Kanrinin-san
Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi
Osake wa Fuufu ni Nattekara
Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san
Kuma Miko
Ojiisan to Marshmallow

And many more, I enjoy most of them though, as for the reason how/why I got 'conned' feel free to take a guess,.

The Flowers Of Evil

what a piece of shit, this anime was widely reviled for the use of rotoscoping but i personally liked and it's the reason i give this anime a watch only to be disappointed, the plot was garbage and the characters were terrible especially the protagonist he is the most pathetic weakling pussy loser MC i ever seen, when the red haired bitch forced him to wear the stolen female gym clothes the cringe was so strong for me i dropped it

Gave Bleach and Naruto the 100-episode challenge; a game where if I still wanna watch after 100 episodes, I do

Got to 100 but they started getting too drawn-out to wanna finish watching.

I'm actually watching Bleach, and I can preety agree with you. I just wanted to see the differences between the anime and the manga, and this one is highly better. Naruto too, both more mature than their animated version. You can see that something was censored, and the battle scenes are less bloody.

Never had that experience after 2005, as that was when I shifted from anime into manga (and thus had an inkling on what is good or not before watching) nor from before 2000 (as anime wasn't that widely available privately here)

But during 2000-2004, yeah I had an experience

Fresh off watching X/1999, Great Mazinger vs. Getter Robo, Mazinger Z vs. Devilman, an acquaintance recommended Sailormoon X and the 7 Dragon Ball Z

Thought it was another crossover

Boy was I wrong... 😝

Zoe1 is the start of the series and does not make the whole thing! Have you played ZoE2 and watched the show? They all interlink and explain what is actually going on beyond "boy gets caught in war by accident".

Have a deeper look and you would be surprised, both ZoE and Aldoah fit the following category:

"Mars fights a war with earth over resources using advanced Mech."

The difference, one is using metatron, the other is using Aldoah.

No princess in Zoe2, just a little fan service, an SMT character designed mech and pure action.

There are other inspirations like you say with Gundam, but the more i try and figure out Aldoah, the more i think it was a show by commity.

i played them since they came out, i platinum both Zoe n Zoe2nd Runner, and the Zoe2ndRunner MaRS ver. played the GBA and watched the anime. Aldnoah isnt it. but the similiarities are soo miniscule might as well compare Patlabor too it or Macross since they have mechs

Patlabour does not have a meguffin and is not based on a war between mars and earth.

Come on, you must see the links if you actually played all the ZoE games and watch them as you say.

How long ago has it been since you played? As i replayed and watched Daloris all pretty recently, and when i did i was like, Da faq!

How i made the link, write down the plot points of the show vs the ZoE full premise beyond your generalization, and you can see it if you wish to.

Can you honestly say that they have nothing at all in common?

I cannot be the only one that sees this can i? Has my mind finally become so senial that i am making links to thongs that are not there like a tin foil hat wearing loon?

On another note: Highly recommend Patlabour to those who have not seen it! That is one grate show though, loved the mystery elements and slice of life. I also enjoyed Mecha pet drama! (she calls her labor alphonse, and treats it like a pet).

Oh, you'd better believe I am looking to one day add the Patlabor movies to my collection (though they are different in tone from the OVA and TV show).

Both amazing! The movie with Akira and fist of the north star, where one of my first introductions to anime. The mystery in Patlabour 1 intrigued me, and
The investigation in this anime movie was peak for me! Ghost in the shell was the only other anime that hit as hard. Might have been that time in my life.

Also, Metal Gear solid 4 did the same type of battle in shadow mosses. Old vs the new.

Apparently the first season of Tokyo Ghoul was actually a good anime & I eventually caved in. Knowing nothing about it, I actually found the 1st episode was pretty damn good. It gave off horror vibes & was actually interesting! But then I watched the 2nd episode... then the 3rd. Did everything that I disliked about anime. Then dropped it. Good thing I got I got off this trainwreck ahead of time!

People like to diss Babylon but I thoroughly enjoyed it, except maybe the final episode. Promised a mystery, & actually got a mystery with a bizarre, weird supernatural twist. I think everybody is crazy on this one. ::cirnoshrug

Anyway, the only one I can kind of think of that I was conned into watching, less as a result of the series itself and more because its fans hyped it up so much as being one of the greatest pieces of mecha animation of all time, was GaoGaiGar Final. Like I watched it after I watched the original TV series, and while I can understand why the original TV series was popular, I thought Final was... honestly mid at best, yes even with its hype moments.

To me, GGG Final feels like... you know when studios would try to make a darker and edgier reboot of a beloved children's cartoon, and it just makes the series look more childish because of how hard they're trying to look "mature"? GGG Final feels like that compared to the original series. Also, there's the whole "the writer's barely disguised fetish" thing that you can tell is in there

So yeah, I'm probably gonna get my mecha fan card revoked for that take, but whatever.

Yea, I can see people feeling conned by eva with how much hype it has. Already talked about it in the go-to recommendations thread. I personally like it, but I don't recommend it to people. I do think it is better than texhnolyze though (hard to compare them, though). I dunno why, but when I tried to watch it, I didn't get into it, yet I am a HUGE Abe fan. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood... Boogiepop phantom is great, I remember really liking that one.

For me, eva started out well enough, and was ahead of it's time for the most part. But towards he end, it was like the creators did not know how to end the show, and instead ended it with a pat on the back for Shinji to

The movies kind of resolve this, but you cannot un-watch the final for the original show.

Re Texhnolyze, i would pair that up with Lain as they are made by the same folks and follow similar theme, with

Well Eva has more nuance beyond simply being called trash, if one has no patience for it, i can see why you may feel the way you do.

texhnolyze and boogiepop are a little more edgy i guess, with Texhnolyze more cyberpunk mystery rather than Scifi. If you watch texhnolyze, i recommend paring this with Lain, but you may need more patience for that one.

Every anime lmao I turn it on before realising I'm watching anime and turn that shit back off
I do not know why, but i see your fingers as pointers for typing, do you have a picture of you typing with your middle fingers? That would be awesome! ::eggmanlaugh
