Not sure if its fully loathed, but I always had a soft spot for Ninja Theory's pre-Senua work.

Journey to the West and DmC specifically are both fun to me, and I like they way they handle visual design of their worlds and characters, even if they suffer in terms of narrative.

Games like that are always worth exploring, they wrap around to being an excillirating experience just to see how bad it can get, definitely worth it.

On to a game that's not bad: Wolfenstein Youngblood! I did a co-op playthrough and a solo playthrough and had fun in both, the game gives you tons of space to play with the weapons sandbox (with MachineGames's exquisite gunplay) and the RPG mechanics are not grindy as long as you follow the very clearly laid out progression of the missions, as much as people complain about the tone I'd still say Wolfenstein II had it worse but that one is acclaimed for some reason. It's very much worth playing for the action at the very least.

and the music and art direction i thought were neatzors (kingdom valley in the fan pc port/remake/remaster of sonic 06 is one of my favourite sonic levels ever)

FNAF World. Well... it was loathed at the time. People seem to be coming around on it now. I think the only reason people didn't like it, was because it wasn't your typical jumpscare affair.

Oh, and Bioshock 2. While the story was more or less a repeat of the first but at a slightly lesser quality, I felt that the gameplay was much improved.

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII

I thought it was an enjoyable shooter with a really cool aesthetic, even if I did had my gripes with it in terms of the story (and the lack of appreciation for my boy, Caith Sith).

Since bigstinkie already said Sonic 06, I'll go with Dark Souls 2.
It's not like universally loathed or whatever, but it's got its fair share of haters, and tends to be at the bottom of the rankings whenever people rank Souls games.
I think it's better than Dark Souls 3 in most ways, and overall an infinitely more enjoyable, and most of all interesting, experience. 3 is too much of a overcorrective game for me.

This game may be popular now and much more praised than before, but I will go with Cyberpunk 2077... on the Xbox One.

Despite the performance issues and some visual glitches, the atmosphere of this game is one of the best that i've ever seen on a video game. I remember buying this game for mere 10$ like only three months after its release, because of how bad the reputation of the game was at the time (and it was deserved tbh)

I didn't have much experience with open world games at the time (and even today i'm not a big connoisseur of the genre), but playing this game, even at 20fps at best, was something really good. I'm happy that CDPR improved the game (even with a big delay), but playing a game that was being so massacred at the time, and on the weaker platform, but even then having a great experience, made me develop a fondness for this game.

And the physical release of this game was such a great job, the map poster, postal cards and stickers were a glimpse of what CDPR was (and is) capable to do.

The original Hyperdimension Neptunia, specifically the PS3 version. Absolutely fantastic game and the battle system is unique and creative unlike almost any other RPG except for maybe Xenogears. It is the best battle system in the series and the story was the absolute best in the first Neptunia. One of my top 25 games of all time.

STILL, i think it has the best lore in the trilogy and area exploration, as well as two of my favorite souls characters, queen alsanna and lucatiel of mirrah. i was very happy when i read lucatiel's sword description in ds3 implying that the true monarch kept his promise to remember her.

No idea these two games are seen as "bad" by many people!

I enjoyed them both: thank to emu on pc I've been able to play Dirge because I like FF series and I missed it when I owned a ps2; about Paper Mario, I had a 3ds and I liked the gameplay video (Mario world, colourful, and the nice system of a world made of paper), it's been my first and only PaperMario so I can't compare with others but I totally liked it.

Of all the souls games I've played, 1 + 2 are my top choices and I've platinumed them both because they're that enjoyable.

I know 2 gets a bad rap, and does have some bonkers design decisions in a handful of places, but I think it does some interesting stuff thematically and with the overall narrative that it doesn't get credit for.

I actually like Hoshi wo Miru Hito. Played it because of its reputation as a "legendary shit game", but the short story and lore it has is really interesting, specially for a 1987 game. Plus it has two fan-made remakes which are actually great to play.

I never finished it but I had Dark Souls 2 back when I had an Xbox One and I thought it was pretty fantastic and that Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne were pretty boring and uninteresting. I liked the second game cause it felt a lot like Adventure of Link but better which is another game I liked that people hate too. XDD

And from what I played, the lore was pretty great, too. Definitely wanna get back to it. No other Dark Souls game really interested me.
