My THOUGHTS on Squid Game

I've only watched the first season of Squid Game, but the irony with this show is that it explicitly criticizes violent voyeurism, the exploitation of the poorest by the richest, and the way in which the spectacle of human suffering becomes entertainment... while itself making it mass entertainment with millions of viewers demanding a new season every year to satisfy their morbid curiosity.

It's a bit like Fight Club, which criticizes consumer society... while at the same time becoming a cult product, with merchandising and stylized quotations.

Squid Game criticizes a system of which it is a part, and on which it depends for its success.

From that point of view, I think it's a fine demonstration of the selfishness and hypocrisy of social dynamics.

Squid game treats these subjects with seriousness and emotional gravity, rather than with the comedy or absurd exaggeration that are the hallmarks of traditional satire. Black mirror is a satire, for example.

You should have refrained from intervening since you've just demonstrated your ignorance of the notion of satire but your ego is so fragile that you couldn't help yourself

But what about the critique itself? I mean, its like "I hate capitalism but I don't want to live without it". Doesn't matter how much hypocrisy is there, the critique still can hold up and raise valid points. I've never watched this show but I know its popular, I did watched Black mirror and remember liking it(the few first seasons only) and it was in general because how they portrayed different crazy social dynamics either new ones or exaggerating what we have today, it left me thinking many times; so what about the critique of this show?

You can still do it, but unfortunately lately I've been getting a lot of haters because my threads are deliberately subversive to create a debate and I've been criticizing their favorite game license.

Obviously I'm not invalidating the show' critique of the societal model. As I said in my original post, it just highlights the ambient hypocrisy in which we live and those who produce Squid Game are no exception.

It's a microcosm of social dynamics, where people say they want justice, fairness or impartiality, but their behaviors in particular as consumers often support systems of exploitation.

When is Squid Game going to be in Splatoon? Seems like a missed opportunity from Nintendo tbh

I can understand why some people like it, but it doesn't revolutionize the death game genre. It's basically a mix of As the Gods Will and Kaiji. The show owes its success to Korea's huge soft power.

I don't think it was trying to revolutionize anything; it does offer a good selection of characters and plot points. It's what people wanted in a "Death Game Genre" considering lots of people don't have many options on said genre, it has that going for it which makes it popular. I agree with your points

I mean, there are others similar shows on Netflix but the reason why Squid game is more successful than Alice in Borderlands, for example, is the same reason kpop is more popular than jpop.

I never was into Squid Game. I feel like it's one of those trendy shows like Wednesday, Big Mouth and Stranger Things. Plus, SAW is way better in the "death game" category.

he should have gone into the plane he should have left that would have made a beautiful conclusion to the series a beautifully tragic ending of having seen insanely fucked up things but moving on and painfully accepting that you can't do anything about it

I felt the same. I liked the original season, but didn't feel like a sequel was necessary, and still haven't gotten around to watching the rest. But TV is a business, a hit on that level pretty much has to have more seasons, up until no one likes it anymore if need be.
