This whole June, after the school exams and checking every student's tests, it’s finally time for a vacation road trip with my favorite nephew and niece, my brother, and my sister-in-law.
Before our road trip, I did get some games from Repos, like some RPGs on SNES and PS1, games like MediEvil, (I'm sorry MediEvil I didn't know I don't have you on my Hard drive) and of course the Professor Layton games. I got four of them.
I love puzzles. I’m a big fan of escape games. It all began when I played puzzle sections in horror survival games as a kid. Since then, I’ve always wanted puzzles that could really flex my brain.
I’m also a big fan of Level-5 because of Dark Cloud, which is my favorite video game of all time. I also played Jeanne d’Arc and Rogue Galaxy (sadly, I didn’t finish because the game got stuck at the end of Chapter 7). I also want to play Ni no Kuni someday.
So I played Professor Layton and became a big fan of the series. I mean, I’m a sucker for big stories mixed with puzzles. I started with Curious Village, then Diabolical Box, Unwound Future, and finally The Last Specter.
Those hotel nights with my nephew and niece watching me play the game and taking turns solving puzzles were really a blast. My brother was especially good at the math puzzles, and we were all heavily invested in the story.
All I can say is: damn, I became a huge fan of the series just from playing one game and then going through the rest. The only ones left are Miracle Mask and Azran Legacy, but they’re on the 3DS, and I don’t have a 3DS emulator, so this is where I’ll stop for now.
My favorite was The Last Specter. I really enjoyed the first timeline. My favorite puzzle was from Diabolical Box — the chess puzzle, baby!
Well, this is my story for now. I still have a lot to say about my road trip.
And I have a question: are Miracle Mask and Azran Legacy worth getting? For now, I’m going to get Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva.
