One day, someone here on the forum recommended that I watch The Matrix. At first I was reluctant because I'm not into it. I've been into action movies, but after seeing this one I fell in love with the plot.I really enjoyed the plot twist; it shocked me how I figured out who the traitor was. I wasn't expecting it to be him.My favorite characters that I liked and Neo Trinity Morpheus My rating is 9.7. What other movie should I try?

I know this is a small criticism, my first criticism.

Glad you enjoyed the original Matrix, Morpheus was my favorite character by far, my fav scene? definitely the part where the Oracle gave Neo a cookie.

I recommend: Casper Movie, 1995.

Que bom que você gostou do Matrix original! Morpheus era de longe meu personagem favorito. Minha cena favorita? Com certeza, a parte em que a Oráculo dá um biscoito para o Neo.

Recomendo: O filme Casper, de 1995.
Thank you for the recommendation. Add to my movie list

The Matrix was very prescient for it's time, though sci-fi preceded it, nonetheless it was the first time some of those philosophies and ideas were disseminated to a wider audience. I'm glad I got to see Ghost in the Shell before I ever saw the Matrix, which was inspired by it.

I love the world and aesthetics, but I could never stomach the movie.

The first Matrix was great
I wouldn't really recommend the rest. (though they arent terrible)

I liked the cyber aesthetic but I also felt like it was more or less a western John Woo movie not made by John Woo.

I was never as hyped for a movie franchise beginning as the day I walked out of the first movie's premiere. Although 2 and 3 aren't bad, you know, like the Star Wars sequel trilogy bad...they were a huge let down. The plot went all over the place, didn't really further any of the character's personal development, and the ending felt sloppy and rushed.

It's hard to watch the first one nowadays and like it the way I did when it first came out. By itself, it's amazing. If it was the only Matrix movie ever made it would be put on a pedestal and never questioned as the ultimate sci fi movie.

Now you are now aware of what "Red Pill/ Blue Pill" actually refers to. Nevermind the myriad of labels & stigmas that have been retroactively applied to it in order to obfuscate the true meaning of the core principle. Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" can be considered the "OG" Red Pill story..

And I also agree; stay away from the sequels. The first movie is a wonderfully self-contained story in itself. Although, that being said, the 'Animatrix' is fine for what it is too..

Or maybe it's up to the viewer to think if the pills were really about something. After all Thomas was basically in a boring, dead-end job in an office and wished for a more exciting life.

It's still funny how the red pill with the same use also existed almost a decade prior in Total Recall (Verhoeven is a great film maker after all) and that Matrix took a lot from John Woo in the fighting style (and dual wielding guns).

On the other hand that thing being taken by 4chan users (with more or less dubious ideas considering how the site is) explains why there has been labels applied to it.

At the end of the day maybe both pills could've been doors and could've even lead to the same outcome because of the illusion of free choice (but that's an entirely different debate).

Why do you insist on doing the "uM aCtUlLy" thing without ever actually saying anything of substance?

It's really simple, but since you apparently don't get it:
Red Pill: Uncomfortable truth(s) that can never ever be "unseen"..
Blue Pill: Comforting lie(s); "Don't ask questions..."; "go back to sleep"..

Also, Plato predates Total Recall by around ~2400 years..

There's a red pill in both Total Recall and The Matrix and both are about waking up, that's just it. I don't see the link about Total Recall and Plato in this subject because you were just bringing it up in a different subject.

In fact this is just one (of many) interpretation of what the pills are about (regardless of what the Wachowski sisters may have thought of in the making of the movie)...

Coração Satânico, A Carona (1986), A Mosca (1988), Psicopata Americano, Os Garotos Perdidos, Quase Escuro, O Abutre, Os Irmãos Cara de Pau, Fogo Contra Fogo, os filmes do Batman de Tim Burton
Thanks

I'd add Dark City (Director's Cut), Truman Show, Thirteenth Floor, Falling Down.

Read the "Allegory of the Cave" and it will make perfect sense... or if you find Plato's syntax too hard to follow, watch a video of someone breaking it down..

Similarly, "The Truman Show" is about the titular character "taking the Red Pill." For him to "take the Blue Pill" would be to uncritically ignore the numerous inconsistencies going on around him..

While I agree it could be a reference to it a movie's interpretation is also up to the viewer...

Hell, it could also be a reference to hormonal therapy as some theories were saying. Neo had a transformation of some kind between his time as Mr. Anderson to the moment he became Neo.

On the other hand what I was saying is that there's a similar pill with a similar function in Total Recall so I wouldn't be surprised if that was a nod to it (in the same way that the fight scenes were inspired by Woo's filming style).

Or it could also be a trope about realisation (like the hero's journey) rather than being about pills.

On the other hand I am not a fan of the way people from 4chan appropriated this scene to convey their viewpoint (which are dubious in most cases) so I understand why some people don't like this expression being used to talk about things (especially with how it's often used by one extreme side of the spectrum). There's some sort of implicit political comment when people are using the pill allegory in online discourse.

At the end of the day it's a nice action sci-fi movie with cool martial art and gunfights and the pills are just there for the hero to begin his journey.

You're doing it again. You're purposefully misunderstanding my entire, very straightforward point in order to obfuscate and lead towards the MSM-approved "correct™ opinions."

Furthermore, A) Wikipedia is not a valid reference (it is their policy to never use primary sources, ever), and B) attempting to tie anything & everything that you don't like to 4chan is stupid & lazy; both of which just invalidates your fallacious criticisms. Therefore, it is YOU that is attempting to pull the (erroneous) political stain into the conversation.. Stop it!

Need I remind everyone of my original point:

Sorry but what is the "MSM"?

Calm down, I'm just saying that some individuals used that allegory in a bad way.

Also what's wrong with saying that Total Recall is using the same kind of pill? It could be a simple reference.

But what are the "myriad of labels & stigmas that have been retroactively applied to it..."?
