I finished a proper clean of a new, traded PlayStation today, and it is LOVELY! I’m so happy to see it all come together, as well as to get matching memory cards to bring the whole gray look together.

This is my current collection, featuring a giant Spyro plushie for added flavor. Many games have come and gone from my collection, and there’s still plenty of games I want to add, but I’m feeling good! My one complaint is the variants I have of a lot of my games. So many Greatest Hits (UGH! Why did younger me buy so many?!), as well as Metal Gear Solid from the PS2 set. I’d like to make my collection like my PS2, PS3, and PS4 sets: purged of all Greatest Hits. On the one hand, it sucks that no PS5 game gets a discounted re-release like that, but on the other hand I HATE GREATEST HITS BOXES so I’m happy that there’s no color mismatch to stain my collection. The PS1 is the PlayStation I’m most passionate for, but WOWZA it’s got some expensive games! But, being into Saturn has numbed me to higher price tags, so I expect to add some games back into my set, replace some others, and add new games. I want Vib Ribbon!

Also, gosh, I really miss RE2…
My old copy, which I sold, was a printed cover. If I get a new copy, it’ll be CIB.

Here's an award just for owning Bubsy 3D!
Amazing collection so far. I love the MGS PS2 case especially, you could also play backups using Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

Am I the only one who doesn’t mind Greatest Hits labels?

Found a nice, long box copy of Ridge Racer today! Torn manual, but it’s otherwise in great nick and has the registration card. I’ve been told the jewel case long boxes were sold at Toys R Us, and the cardboard cases were from Walmart and other such stores. Don’t know why that was the case, but I guess that’s why Sony decided against long boxes in the long run.

I was originally planning on writing a review and retrospective on Astal for my Writers Guild application, which I still plan to do, but I think I may also want to consider doing an unbiased comparison between the home port of Daytona USA and Ridge Racer. I think I have a bit to say! Far more than just “Daytona framerate bad. Ridge Racer better”.

Spoiler though: both are great games and you should play both of them when you can :)
