(and yes, I tried removing it and putting it back again)

Dunno why this hapenned since it was working just fine before.
(The only thing I did before it stopped working was unplugging it

Sadly, those don't mix well with TVs and are quite frail in general.

Not too long ago, my SD card reader stopped working for literally no reason after watching videos on my television. It was the latest victim of a large massacre.

Does it suck? Yeah... It really does. But it isn't worth getting mad about.

It's fixable, and i know a good telegram channel that specializes in chinese game stick restorations, fixes and firmwares compatible for the one you own.

I was in the same exact situation until i found a firmware that was made for my board in mind and was able to get a very different frontend than the one my brother bought from Tiktok shop originally.

Should I expect to have the same problems down the road with the MicroSD card of games and emulators in a USB card reader that came with my Android Smart TV OS "console"?

I don't use telegram

best you switch to a official branded sd card cuz those that come with it aren't super reliable at all

that's understandable i could instead send you a download link to the one it needs if you prefer that and will toss in a tutorial pdf file that comes with it

Try cleaning the SD card's contacts with a bit of rubbing alcohol.
They may have gotten dirty, I don't know how if it was never taken out, but it happens sometimes.
But most likely, if it's the original as stated above, it's a cheap junk SD card.
You might also want to clean the contacts inside the stick too.
It couldn't hurt anything. Do let it dry... alcohol doesn't take long to evaporate, but still give it a few minutes.

Does it count if I don't have isopropylic alcohol but have parfume that uses it?

What? No. That will leave a residue on the contacts. You would be better off using soap and water. Don't do that either. Do it like they said use rubbing alcohol or even alcohol wipes would be fine

Hate to say, but these things are not made with quality or longevity in mind.

People have already offered good advice here. If getting a new SD card from a more reputable manufacturer isn't feasible, I'd suggest trying to borrow one to see if that works. You can also try using it on a friends TV and seeing if that changes things.

As far as cleaning goes, 99% isopropyl alcohol in liquid form is what you want if you'd like to try that. 90+% is okay in a pinch, do not use 70%, or anything that simply contains alcohol.

If you have an old computer lying around by chance, I'd also be happy to walk you through turning that into an emulation machine. Something I've been doing for friends and projects for quite a while.

Never would have guessed that from the top-tier, super high-quality box. But seriously, even the name brand ones are fairly junk

Even a cheap one from a store would probably be more reliable than what came with it. It's probably some cheap POS from the same company that makes the switches SD cards

Yup

Hell, depending on what they want to play. Even a shitty Chromebox running Linux would be better than a TV "GameStick"

Can confirm! I've got a few of those kicking around and they actually work quite well. Requires some hardware "adjustments" unfortunately, as many of the boards actually have a physical screw that locks down firmware tampering.

Yeah, I have a HP Chromebox. I don't recall the specs or model offhand, doesn't matter 4 GB of RAM, yada yada. I use it in combo with Linux as basically a PS1 emulator. Some of the later models would probably do more, but eh they really aren't worth it unless you just want a little emulation box or a half-decent movie/media player. And hardly half
