Well, not sure if this is a good place to start this on, but after a bit of digging I wasn't able to find a better place. Topic is music and it's as broad as a Mercedes parked sideways. I was always heavily inspired by music. I find it an interesting distraction that always keeps the brain in a game of power chess. Listen to it and you'll be able to make moves that you weren't probably supposed to do otherwise since it will guide you with its dopamine flow. Since some newly formed AI tools made it into the present this has helped me reach points of imagination I was unable to reach before. As such, I discovered a rather cumbersome and somewhat addictive hobby of trying to find music I like to hear not by searching but by creating it by asking an AI for it. And, it's actually fun and incredibly rewarding.
Now, while I know I am strongly music oriented myself, I'm curious how are you guys on the topic of "music". Whether you listen to it pasively or whether it inspires you.

And since I'm on a music topic now, to not disappoint (hopefully) I'll share some of my own inspiration. After a few hours of back-and-forth with "the AI", I made this remix after "Heart - Alone" which kind-of makes more sense to me than the original. :)

What are your prefferences in music or what inspires you, if... ?

There’s an entire subforum dedicated to music, so this can probably be moved there.

Though to answer your question, my preferences are very varied.
Progressive rock, classic heavy metal and ambient synth lies closest to my heart, but it also depends a lot on the season.

Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of 90 underground hip hop, reggae, jazz, and a bunch of jungle/dnb.

Damn, this is exactly what I was fearing. Not being able to find the damn place and then probably relying on some admin to clean up after me. (sorry)

I share the ambient synth preference, but it depends on the mood for me too.

I’ll share one of my favorite ambient tracks, I always get back to this album several times a year:

For some very weird reason this vibes the same for me as the level soundtracks of Tomb Raider 3.

One of the few projects that Ildjarn was a part of that were great. I don't know if the other guy (Nidhogg) harnessed the man somehow or what but their ambient collabs are S-tier. You might be interested in Sort Vokter. That's the other band that the two were involved in that I can recommend. Fairly raw black metal but it has that something to it that's charming. As far as his own exploits go, let's just say that there's raw black metal with low production value and then there's Ildjarn. Iirc he had an ambient album or two that he worked on on his own that were decent but I'm not gonna lie, it's been a while since I've heard any of his stuff so take what I say with a pinch of salt.

Music has always been such a big part of my daily life that I find it sorta baffling when people say they don't really listen to music. I get it, of course, people have different tastes and preferences after all but still.

I'm not exactly an avid AI hater but I really don't think I can or want to jump on the ai train on this one. I feel most, if not all, artistic efforts are better left for humans to figure out.

There are some various content creators here and I’ve been following them for quite a while now.
And honestly I liked what you dished out here!

After exploring the galaxy of music for decades and along the way my taste did change a lot I noticed I don't like X genre as I thought when I just liked particular similar musics and I didn't dislike particular genre but I just never heard musics from the genre I liked.

That being said at this age I don't like rock and metal genre like I used to do, It just got boring despite I don't undermine value of the songs I liked back then. I still like Japanese disco and Italian eurobeat, and then its mix of "Para-para Eurobeat" and J-Euro, I still like 80s pop and also synth-pop, I never cared about jazz but I started to like acid jazz, Japanese city-pop and Enka-genre music these years...

I do appreciate the use AIs have. AIs cannot replace real music and artists for me but it's a great tool for me to generate music of the lyrics I write and then explore the genre mix I came up with. For example Acid Jazz doesn't have much music I like around so I kinda have no choice but write me lyrics and generate music for it. Not to mention exploring music is one thing but it's not realistic and desirable to keep listening same songs for years therefore that's another reason why generating songs via AI is a good thing for me.

For example I wrote a song about my feelings during 80s:

It's amazing that the AI doesn't just generate "random music", it gets into persona it understand from the lyrics to even sing by emulating the emotion of the song to generate the music!!!

Music has always been such a big part of my daily life that ...

Totally agree with you on this. Further, people do listen to music more than admitted. Everytime you see a movie, you are bound to listen to some well orchestrated music that completes the whole experience. Or even when you buy shoes, chances are the store you walk into will have some music on the background, exactly for the mood. I find it keeps me focused or helps me brainstorm ideas.

On the AI part... That's quite a topic there.I feel it's like discovering that "magic mirror" where you simply tell it what you want and it "poofs" it into existence, while others need to build the thing. And I am permanently humbled by that, especially when I create a remix that I fear somehow might offend the original artists that I actually really appreciate to begin with. Or worse, the fans, which is more likely. But I feel on some level, I'm doing what a human being should do. Try to express something, even as a variation of something else, the way I feel it would give it more value (for me offcourse). That magic mirror doesn't know what I want. I can't go and say "Poof in for me that excellent remix of Roxette". I do need to explain quite a bit of my vision to it. And while some Roxette fans might hate it (rightfully so), some not Roxette fans might like it!

However, at this point many artists would probably laugh in my face: "Oh, you need to 'TELL it, mind you? Why didn't we thought of that? While we learn instruments and techniques for years, rehears for other years finding that sound that you so 'conveniently' pick up from some AI? That did nothing else than learn from us??". And I hear that even without it being said. And it humbles me more.

I don't think it's fair to talk from the artists' perspective, but I will use my own perspective and experience. Many years ago, I imagined computer games or software that weren't there. And I wanted to make them into existence. To set up a team and start working on some ideas. It turned out not to be that easy. And I decided to learn to program myself while I didn't really wanted to. I wanted my focus on the creative part, not the technical aspects. And started a long journey that eventually had me become the seasoned software developer I am today. I still do my hobby projects and they are advancing nicely. I too started to use AI in this journey, even for things I could do myself. I like to review my work, to improve it. And I realize that at some point my job will be obsolete. But what will not be will be my imagination. Everything else I believe to be a tool with varying degrees of difficulty.

So, I guess what I'm saying with this overly lengthy message is that I see a distinction between the artistic effort and the technical ability to implement it. The second one I would agree it could be replaced by a tool, albeit in this case a very sophisticated and undeterministic tool.

Also, ironically, I am not the biggest fan of AI either. Let's not forget the "magic mirror" also threw someone in trouble if I recall correctly.

Thanks for your input on this and sorry for me rambling! :D

Hey, thanks! Yeah, made that Enthusiast Sounds channel for this kind of things. Mostly experiments or things I really enjoy listening to. :)

After exploring the galaxy of music for decades and along the way my taste did change ...

Yeah, for me too the music style I listened over the years went back and forth. And it's even mood based, sometimes I feel like listening some 80's original music, some remixes, sometimes I go with jazz or even movie music.

I think that persona you mention is actually how it learns. You see, this goes back a bit to what I was mentioning to Potapoa earlier, a lot of artists actively and pasively contributed to this AI tool and that created some patterns. Once it "gets" the hint, it knows how it should sound based on the experience of that genere or whatever it used to get the hint, maybe even lyrics.

I actually never tried to generate random music with AI. I always had a specific purpose in mind. I'm curious if I type "random song with lyrics" what would it yield. Maybe even a bit scared of that.

Btw, I really like that song and the point behind it! I think I also noticed a splice at 4:01 where you "might" have combined a part of another song. :D
But it works great!

Thanks! You are very observant! Actually the situation is the free AI I using had a problem with generating a decent song, so after few days (waiting for my daily free credits to generate again) this was the only decent song it could generate but since it has time limit and something not following the lyrics I write and all it ruins endings so I had to copy paste ending of another AI generated version of the same song lol.

BTW I'm using this:

I never used it without not writing my lyrics so IDK how well it can generate a lyrics but at least I can say it's ok with picking up a sense of genre according to your lyrics and figuring out a way of singing. One of my friend tried completly random generated song that I did listen so I can say if it is how its random generations is then I can say "it's barely listenable but not that ok".

When it comes to "persona thing", that's actually amazing more than how it seems. I never used "select persona for singer" or something thing for the AI, I just choose genre that even its gender selection doesn't always work properly but at least the AI seem to be great on coming up with persona to sing the song properly according to lyrics. In my previous example it is not that obvious but I have a better example for in one of my meme song (I wrote the lyrics but left the genre to AI):

It's amazing that AI even has "annoying high school new generation girl" persona lolol.

Nice to meet you! I share your passion for music. It’s something essential in our everyday lives because it supports us more than anything else in so many moments... The genre doesn’t really matter as long as it makes us feel good.

As for A.I., I’ve listened to some stuff made with it before, and it’s true—you can get some really interesting results (I still need to listen to your track though).
A.I. is just another tool, and if it’s used wisely and in moderation, it can be helpful in many areas. In my case, I use it to translate what I write into English.
That said, I listen to a bit of everything as long as it catches my attention.

Thanks! You are very observant! Actually the situation is the free AI I using had a problem with generating ...

Yeah, having worked a lot with music during the years (not only since the AI) made me able to pick-up small technical details. I also "think", not sure, but I think you did not use a cross-fade. When you do these transitions it's best to match the beat first and then crossfade. Then wiggle around until you get to a spot that's almost impossible to tell afterwards you made a cut on. Here is a similar example of something I've done very recently (also because I had a small artifacting problem):

Regarding the error in generating, yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I remember having the same problems with early versions of the tool I'm using - Suno (https://suno.com). It would generate ok for a few minutes and then it would decay like all sounds were sucked into a creppy black hole. However that seems to be very rare nowadays. Also, I usually gather a backlog of project ideas and once in a while I purchase a one month subscription. It's around 10$ and allows me to use the latest version (5) of suno which is almost perfect and I get an allowance of 500 songs (2500 credits). Which is plenty. I end up usually burning a lot of it in the last days of the subscription on things I "may" use later or to release some stuff for free. So, whenever you'll see large quantities of free music from me, it's most likely I am burning credits.

You can also use the free version, you get 50 credits per day, you consume 10 per query but it generates 2 songs.

I tried that generator (aisonggenerator.io), version 3. I think it's quite decent, though I was able to get some discrete artifacting. Nothing dramatic though.
What was a surprise was that it would not let me download the 2 songs I created unless I purchase a plan. Suno allows you to download on the free plan. So I did what any self-respecting "oh, no you don't!" person would do and recorded them. Then I laughed it out loud since I realized I now still sit on over 5000 credits on Suno which has a better quality and I wasted 10 minutes of my life to record these two just out of petty spite. :D

Hey there, nice to meet you too! Yeah, AI translation is quite useful because it's able to also figure out the context with greater precision. But indeed, as any tool (at least under the current nature of it), we need to be wise in how we use it. Agreed.

I love Heart!
AI, not so much (especially in music)

Here I go again. (Future pun intended)
Love the energy of that original so I added more.
