In case you are unaware, a remake of the original "MOTHER" done in the style of its sequel "MOTHER 2" by various members on the Starman.net forum, has been in the works for over a decade and is nearing completion. It is scheduled to release in 2026. This project was initially led by Clyde Mandelin (Also known as Tomato) who worked on "MOTHER 3's" fan translation, but it eventually got picked up by various other members of the Starman.net forum back in 2012—most notably, "H.S."

After about 7 more years of progress (behind closed doors), H.S had mysteriously vanished—leaving the future of the project stuck in limbo. This led to it again being picked up by a talented group of people—including Starman.net member "Livvy94". They went through great lengths to preserve the remaining scraps of the unfinished project to upload to Github. Until another user by the name of "Gabbls" decided to make their own offshoot project in 2021.

The first full trailer for this iteration of the project was shown in 2024. With the progress at the time reportedly being "steady". Since then, an even newer trailer has been released, suggesting the ambitious ROM Hack is now almost finished and will be released next year, in 2026.

My brother was telling my about this just earlier today. Looks very cool!

I played the demo, its pretty good! Though there's no random encounters, which is a good thing by Mother's ridiculous standards, the enemies do spawn in the same place. I'm not sure if that was addressed or not.

Here’s hoping they avoid the C&D curse that follows these sorts of big announcements without being ready to distribute.

Yeah, as much as I loved the NES original, the absurdly high encounter rate was irritating, to say the least.

I felt the same, to be honest. Nowadays I won't pick up and RPG without some form of encounter rate reduction patch or similar, even though I love the genre.
