The other day I was looking for a football game to get in the (belated) spirit of things and found FIFA 94, a game I had heard my dad gush about when I was tiny.

Why would I go so far back to play some football when decent stuff already existed on MegaDrive, Super Nintendo and Playstation? Because xD

The reason I bring this up, however, is because FIFA 94 had some wild cheat codes, including the one that inspired me to make this thread: one of the values you can input grants you a player who does nothing but sending the ball back to your own goal with every key you press.

I'm sure the devs were trolling players a little with that one, but the fact remains that it's a pretty useless cheat to enter... and I kind of love that you had to go out of your fucking way in 94 to even see it.

It's just... *Chef's kiss*, man xD

Your turn!

In the video game Descent (1995), if you type "gabbagabbahey" during gameplay will enable the other cheat code, basically the Master Code. Then in the sequel Descent II (1996), if you were to try to enter the same cheat code (i.e. "gabbagabbahey"), you instead greet with 1% HP and 1% Shield.

In Gradius III, if you were to enter the Konmai cheat code, the classic [Pause] Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A [Start], you will activate a self-destruct mechanism. If you want to get the actual cheat effect, substitute Left with L and Right with R.

If you count detrimental cheat as "useless cheat", then there's plenty of retro games that has this.

not really a cheat code but if you type: /soundchaosdebug into D2 chat it plays a loop of all the audio files at once
and sounds like your actually in hell! :)

Maybe not necessarily a cheat in itself, but if you enter 3 (?) cheat codes in Banjo Kazooie, your save file gets deleted.

Also, in Gradius 3, entering the Konami code just kills you. There's a way around it by changing the inputs. I think you have to change the left and right d-pad inputs to the shoulder buttons.

God, that IS hell xD

If you type ''natural wonders'' in Age Of Empires 2 you can control the ''gaia team'' that is the wild animals and ''unconverted'' units that the player must explore to reclaim them yeah this looks interesting but it can fuck the scenario because you only control that and nothing more
In Age Of Mythology there is a cheat similar to this one but you can only control the animals

Any Game Genie hack-type code that breaks the game trying to do something useful. For instance, I remember trying to play Castlevania with unlimited health once when I was a kid. (If the game was too hard I'd cheat to see all the levels.) The cheat worked, but it prevented me from finishing the first level because your life bar is supposed to drain after you beat the boss and increase your score for each hit of health you have left. Since your life can't go down with the cheat on, you just loop this horrible beeping sound infinitely and never make it to the next level. Because of the nature of that type of cheat, many games will become unplayable with certain cheats enabled. I can't think of any cheat more useless than one that breaks the game.
