Most overrated Wii games ever

new super mario brothers wii
it looked like the nintendo ds new super mario bros title and new super mario bros wii u and new super mario bros 2 3ds
what a strange time for nintendo to release so many safe, generic mario games
now mario wonder pats my desk this baby can house a lot of originality
to be fair, the 2d mario games always sell far more than the 3d ones, even if the mario side scroller is 3d. so it made sense for nintendo to jump on making some easy cash. and they save more money by reusing some assets from the previous games that they make for each game in the new super mario bros games. they could have done a bit more with the games in general, like more new characters; or some new mini modes like getting to play as bowser or something like that.

That's weird, because design-wise, it's extremely similar to Planet Robobot, which I would consider one of the last real video games released on an upstream traditional game console. I do think Super Star Ultra is better, but I don't personally see the argument for lack of what the nu-channies call "soul". Same thing with the New Super Mario Bros. games that often get hit with the same criticism.
Most likely a side effect of a lot of games following the same formula, most of which become worse as it progresses. Planet Robopon being an exception. It's like how New Soup DS was really fun and unique when it was released (and arguably still is), but the existence of 2 and Deluxe being the games people think of drags down DS and Wii.

Of course, some people undoubtedly do have individual issues with even the good games. Not everyone will love something largely seen as good or even great, just as some people will love things predominantly seen as poor quality or even terrible. Even if it's a genre you really like.

This also ties into the cultural phenomenon of the DS Lite's definitive qualities (crusty low-poly 3D, metaformalist game mechanics, bright colors, cartoon art, character focus, etc.) being glommed onto by Haunted PS1-tier indie devs in my age bracket that don't actually have an emotional connection to the console and just kind of worship it because it was what was popular in their halcyon period, and who think light self-awareness of that circumstance is enough to justify them. Usually possess some kind of activist grudge as well that belies their alleged enthusiasm for video games specifically. I cast a lot of similar suspicion on second-generation Newgrounds washout video game entertainer types like Jontron and Caddicarus back when they were first becoming extremely popular, and it turns out that a lot of those guys' love of video games was a bit secondary to their grudge against the less conformist, hornier internet they were bricklaying. Haedox went from being one of the most stereotypically outspoken le video jame nerds to a moraldregging Catholic with a cratered YouTube channel in the span of, what, three years? It unfortunately seems like anything that's classically good and that brings happiness to nerdkind is bound to attract flies.

Zelda Skyward Sword. Even without considering the awful motion controls and gimmicks, I found its design very tedious and basically worse in every way compared to Twilight.
Also mario kart wii, I was never a fan of mario kart, but the wii one is like three times more annoying.

Mario Kart Wii is my least favorite Mario Kart so I'd go with that. Somehow, the graphics from MKDD to MKWii got worse, too.

I will say that the most criticized thing about the console is the wiimote, I didn't buy the console because of that at the time and until years later I gave it a chance and I saw that its games were not as bad as I thought.
But I also confirmed that many games could be played with a standard controller without problems and NIntendo only forced the use of the wiimote to sell that feature.

I once read on the internet someone mentioning that if the pro controller had been the base controller on the console and the wiimote an alternative very little would have sold the wiimote and it is the truth.
