N64 Most overrated N64 game ever

Goldeneye 007... Sorry for the rant but I genuinely hate this game...
Ya don't say 😜

It's an all-time favorite of mine, mostly due to the daily multiplayer battles me and my high school buds would go through. An early case of "Git Gud," in my own life.

I do enjoy seeing all the hate it seems to get these days. My opinion of the game is set in stone, but I find it fascinating how first-time players in 1997 were blown away by GoldenEye, while first-time players in the 2020s just kinda seem to laugh at it. So it goes. But I can't argue that we've come a long, long way since then.

As for my own overrated pick? Since you guys took my first choices already (OOT, and Conker / Perfect Dark, by way of, "All Rare Games") I'll guess I'll go with...

WWF No Mercy.

Sorry, I was team WCW back in the day, and once the license shifted, I just didn't bother to keep playing. I know No Mercy has tons of modes and an amazing amount of content for its era, but when you don't care for most of the wrestlers involved - or the company that employs them - it makes for a tough sell.

I still bust out WCW World Tour and Revenge on a regular basis. But for everyone that loves No Mercy, well... you can have it ✌️

Not that it stopped me from buying it, but the N64 was basically the 'we thought we were big and bad and told Sony to kick rocks' system that SHOULD HAVE BEEN a SNES CD-ROM addon as planned. The SNES being objectively the greatest console ever created, I bought this absolute 3D gimmick trainwreck of a no RPGs having waste of money and always regretted it. And Quest64 can eat a fat.....yeah, that.

That said, the Playstation was and IS amazing. I guess things work out as they're supposed to.

Earthbound 64 is highly overrated. ::winkfelix
The Epic Center pages in that one Nintendo Power issue is eternally burned into my brain.

The N64 was such a disappointment for RPGs.

I mean we all have to acknowledge that a lot of these games basically invented or at least completely changed and molded the templates mostly still used to today. That being said, I never go back to the N64 for anything. Most of the games have aged poorly. Basically once I got a PS1 thar system was dead to me lmao. I think Mario 64 aged decently but has a lot of levels I could never stand even when it first came out and was still novel.

I think the first Banjo is more interesting and enjoyable to play than Mario 64 but despite their similarities I don't think it's fair to compare them because Banjo feels more like a fleshed out adventure game to me and Mario 64 is very much still about flow and speed and platforming exclusively.

I hate Banjo Tooie lmao

Upon seeing a Goldeneye Speedrun, I came to the conclusion that the game is overrated because I could never see myself wanting to slide my face across the ground on every level just to save a couple of seconds.

goldeneye is garbage
