The game is not very fun. City Trial CAN BE but the overall gameplay isn’t fun. Simplifying racing down to one button didn’t work.

But, my other answer is another racer: Double Dash is a cool concept that isn’t as good as you remember. There’s a reason it didn’t come back: two racers doesn’t add too much to the game and the overall handling of every vehicle is slippery and light. The game isn’t bad, but I think it’s beyond overrated for people to think it’s the best in the franchise when it handles like it does.

I wasn't a fan of Mario Kart Double Dash.
I like Double Dash for what it is but I still don't "get" it and many people still consider it as the best Mario Kart of the series despite the improvements of the sequels.

It could actually work since Sakurai knows how to make a simpler concept works (like Smash simplifying fighting games by removing motion inputs and technicalities like holding back for guarding or up for jumping).

However I think the game is just lacking circuits and game modes. City Trials would've benefited from Online support and I think that there should've been more abilities and items overall.

If there was an Air Ride 2 on the Switch with additional stuff it would've shown its full potential.

Two racers could've been a great element for strategy but in the meantime it made the game more chaotic. Baby Park on the DS and even 8 weren't as chaotic because of the lack of two items and how there weren't any "Special" items.

The vehicles not having proper animations when you get heavy damage felt weird.

And if people want to tell how technical it was I'd argue that MK is also a party game and that if they wanted a more hardcore experience there are other racing games like F-zero.

I prefer the modern controls on the Remastered because I don't see myself playing a full First Person Adventure game with motion control.

Spirits are also collectibles like trophies but I'd argue that Smash's replay value is in the gameplay itself rather than those collectibles.

Like in Prime 1 then. You literally have complexes, ruins of the Chozos and story told through the environment and scans (which are optional).
Thats true . ::thinking

A reason to replay prime 1.
Its been a long time.... and im getting old ....::dkfacepalm

Eh, to each their own, but I found the trophies to be really cool pieces of history that kind of reinforced the idea of Smash Bros being a celebration of gaming in general (which I think Ultimate is otherwise pretty good at). Seeing old characters rendered in 3D was cool too. Gameplay aside, Spirits are just jpegs that don't have any real information and feel like quantity-over-quality inclusions. I like Ultimate well enough though.

I do agree they should've given descriptions to the Spirits (or at least the major ones) but trophies are just a side game like Adventure mode is a side game.

Smash Bros' main attraction is the multiplayer party game aspect.
