Monster Hunter Megathread

Oh, yeah, FF is all but gone (also another I don't play past a specific release, namely 12).
That said, I agree, MH has been doing better than most franchises in regards to keeping the general framework intact.

If any of you have problem with Wilds I recommend installing REFramework. I couldn't even launch the game before that (my computer isn't weak or anything) but after REFramework I can get to the main menu. I haven't played atm because I'm busy tho

Wanted to bring this thread back, so I'll ask a few rapid fire questions to you all!

Do you have a favorite village/hub area in the series? If so, why is that one your favorite?

Additionally, seeing as the series went through quite a few changes with the latest generations, what are your thoughts on the QoL features in the modern games when compared to something like MHFU or MHGU?

Plus, how have you all been enjoying Wilds now that it's been about two months since its launch?

I'm asking these from the perspective of a Rise player who has been taking their time in enjoying the post-game content, but have not yet played the other games extensively at the moment!
Okay, yet another thread I should have found way sooner but only saw today. I'm a massive MonHun fan, it's one of my top 5 game franchises of all time, and I've played over 1,000 hours of MH4U alone!

Okay, my favorite village has to be Yukumo. Pokke and Bherna and even Kamura are all very comfy, and all the villages of 4U have my nostalgia, but I really like Yukumo. It's just the one I keep coming back to. I really don't like the cold, or else Pokke would potentially win out, that soundtrack is so soothing.

About modern QoL, I wasn't fully onboard with all the changes on World already, being an oldgen hunter. Honestly, Rise is the perfect modern MonHun game, or at least as close to how I'd like the series to be modernized. I'd only want it to be a little bit less streamlined, like having to actually use hot and cold drinks, and paintballs to track monsters instead of always seeing them in the map. Stuff like that really helps reinforce the whole feeling of "being prepared for a hunt" that I enjoyed so much in the old games.

I haven't played Wilds, only the demo/beta. And I'll be honest, in some aspects it's really good and in others it's honestly even more disappointing than World, somehow. Apart from the massive performance and optimization issues, the game is just really barebones, lacking in content and difficulty, while making multiplayer needlessly convoluted. I genuinely think I might even not buy this game eventually. Meanwhile, I've enjoyed Rise and Sunbreak so damn much, that I bought the game TWICE, on the Switch and PC, and I'm considering buying Sunbreak again to have it on the Switch.

If you started with Rise, welcome! I could recommend you try GenPEAK Ultimate, if you're already on the Switch. If you're not, I recommend you emulate Portable3rd, or 3U/4U on the 3DS. They're all great oldgen games that aren't too hard on the progression.

Just started World yesterday and wanted to try out a new weapon since I almost always just use Dual Blades and anyways I came across the Switch Axe; it's amazing, I'm completely in a honeymoon phase with it right now.

My history with Monster Hunter is pretty rocky. The first MonHun I tried was Freedom Unite for the PSP while I was in high school and I absolutely did not like it at all. Movement felt bad (I didn't try any of the other weapons, so I think I must have only tried one of the slow heavier ones), being confined to one hub town wasn't fun, and the lack of story made it boring. I just did not see the point in fighting dinosaurs and gathering supplies.

Despite that, I also tried Freedom Unite 2 and Portable 3rd, I guess expecting different results, but ultimately felt the same. I never stuck with the games long enough to understand the gameplay loop. I'm a big JRPG player, so the lack of story was always a turn off.

Then I tried Monster Hunter Generations for the 3DS and something finally clicked for me. I think at the time, isekai anime was just starting to take off and I saw a lot of parallels between Konosuba and MonHun Generations with the whole registering with an Adventures Guild to take on quests thing. I think this is the first game I tried out Dual Blades and it just made hunting so much more tolerable. I also loved being able to hunt with my Palico. Unfortunately I hadn't really gotten too far in that game and I forget why, maybe I got sucked into another Pokemon game or something.

Then I tried out Rise since it was available on PS Plus. Loved the Ninja-themed town aesthetic. I was really getting into this, but I've lost access to it since I'm broke and can't afford PS Plus anymore.

I bought World before I went broke, but I didn't touch it for a long time, maybe because I was still butthurt that I'd lost access to Rise and wasn't sure I would like it since it wasn't Ninja-themed like Rise... Well, its still MonHun and very fun. Maybe this will be the first MonHun that I will actually get deeply invested into ::peacemario

My first experience with MH has been, strangely enough, with the "Stories" title on 3ds :)
After that, I decided to give a try to the main series and it's been great: I've completed "3 Ultimate" on 3ds (main story and some postgame and I felt very proud), played some of "Generations" also on 3ds, and "Rise" on Switch. My favourite among these ones still are the 3ds titles, and also "Stories 2" on Switch, I've enjoyed it a lot and I've been able to complete almost all the post-game!

MH Vet of over a decade and pretty much havent missed a single release regardless of platform since freedom back in 2005! I was wondering what are some of your favourite games, weapons, armorsets, and just general memories within the series.

I'll start with some of my favourites:

My favourite game of all time was モンスターハンターフロンティア ダブルゼット(Monster Hunter Frontier Zenith Z)

Favourite weapon/armor set: Zenith Toridcless Magnet Spike/Armor Set

2016 was a crazy year for me, and i ended up spending a lot of my time in net cafes playing MH online.

Tochigi is such a great place, and if you ever find yourself in the Ustunomiya area, i'd recommend visiting for a day.

so far, i have only played monster hunter 4U and monster hunter world. i have enjoyed both games very much, but i feel as though i am too fresh to the series to offer any nuanced opinions. however, nargacuga is my favourite monster i have encountered thus far. very stylish cool and handsome.

I have played the 3ds titles (Stories, 3U, part of 4, part of Generations) and I enjoyed all of them.
My favourite weapons were the twin blades; my favourite armor was the best I could get after every mission; my favourite monsters (especially in Stories where you can ride them) are Stygian Zinogre, Lagombi, yellow Ludroth and blue Lagiacrus.

First time I tried a psp title I totally disliked it; then "Stories" came out, more close to me as genre and I liked it; after that, I got curious so I tried the other titles on 3ds but right now I have no desire to play another MH title.

I'm new to the series, started with World and absolutely nolifed it for like 300 hrs. Odogaron set is probably my favorite and as a hammer main I liked the one from Vaal Hazak because it doesnt look like a hammer and more like an axe. Somehow my most vivid memories with that game are both related to crossover events. First is when my friend visited me and I played through The Witcher questline, we had such a fun time pointing out every reference and stuff. Second one is when I was loosing my mind grinding Behemoth from FF14 collab (I had to do it like ~30 times because every time someone kept screwing up). It was very hard and sometimes frustrating but also very funny when you see people get comically obliterated.

I really like fighting Rathian in Rise, the attacks are so telegraphed they make for a good training monster that is not too hard nor too easy when picking up the other weapons. But in terms of armor I just really like the formal look of the Mizutsune set, it looks so good for both the male and female hunters.

Started in Monster Hunter Freedom. Then Monster Hunter Freedom 2 but after getting into Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, I joined a local Monster Hunter community. Once a week, I played multiplayer with them in Starbucks or restaurants that weren't too busy and willing to take us in. We had custom quests and even reserved an MH tournament in a mall. Highlight event was being the first team to beat dual G Rank Rajang in an arena naked where almost every hit is a one shot cart. I remember we actually got a C&D notice from Capcom for using official art as event decor which was a big surprise since it's in an out of the way sort of seedy mall. I couldn't believe Capcom would bother to C&D a small community as ours in a 3rd World country for an event that most people wouldn't even notice exists.

Now I play Wilds, previously played World and RIse. I liked Rise best, nothing in it really annoys me unlike the other two. Capcom's handling of Wilds however, is hit and miss for me.

My first was 3 on the Wii back in the day, but I think I've poured the most time into Rise. It's not really trad monhun and perhaps a little too streamlined but I loved the movement options and being able to play it in bed (I got it on Switch like a little gremlin). I'm a greatsword main to the bone and I like how crazy they made it. Also like how they didn't try to cram a story down your throat. I also played through Generations Ultimate earlier this year and liked that a lot.

I started with Monster Hunter: Rise on Switch but I didn't get very far. Trying out Freedom on my Vita, hoping to stick with this one for once. Any advice for a first-time player?

Monster Hunter thread? Why, don't mind if I do!

I don't have a number 1 favorite MH game, but I really enjoy 3U (didn't play too much of it, but I plan on giving it a proper playthrough someday), 4U, GU, and Rise. I like World a lot too but I'm not as crazy about it compared to the others. I like Wilds but I'm very bittersweet about the game. It's very fun just...not really a great Monster Hunter game if that makes sense. I feel like that game needs a lot of tweaking. Content will come for sure, but it has some odd design choices. Or things they introduce but then immediately forget. Or how there's plenty of potential for things, but the game does nothing with its own potential. It's as if the game isn't quite sure what it wants to be. But outside of that, it's a pretty good starting point for any new hunter.

Currently playing through: Portable 3rd. Spoiler alert: it's incredible. Yukumo village theme brings me to tears. P3rd has immaculate vibes. Gorgeous visuals and music. I just can't get over this game - it's just such a wonderful title.
