I have to say there is really few board games that made me feel excited than Monopoly. The ideal sense of you owning property, or whatever is available based on which version you have, negotiating, and strategizing your way to victory is pretty fun and can be relaxing if you are with your friends. Admittedly, it can be long and drawn out, but with any good board game, there can be rules to compromise the time and change the way you can win the game. I did have The .com Edition, which had some of the best websites the world offered at that time and the fragile Mr. Monopoly Token, but what are your favorites and which ones you owned.

My friend and I would play it every single time we hung out.

It was such a big part of our childhood, moments born from our endless matches are still quoted at random. It's our personal lore.

There was a company doing town-themed versions of Monopoly around here, maybe five years ago. This town doesn't have enough stuff in it to cover all the spaces on the board, so there was stuff like a spot for the lake, and a spot on the other side of the board for the lake's recreation center. One was a diner that has since closed and hadn't been there too long prior to the game's release, stuff like that. Kind of a weird curiosity, but I didn't buy it.
As for the original game, I don't know that I've ever properly played it, but when I was very young we used to play and purposely try to get put in jail (why I don't know, we were like five years old), and I found that fun at the time.

Late game, hanging in jail is a pretty good idea, as far as I know. I see it as a pretty clear, albeit veiled criticism of the way of the world, but I don't know if Hasbro designers made it so knowingly.

Most people play it wrong, which contributed to its reputation as a long, boring, pure luck based game, which it really isn't, if played correctly.
For me the preferred way is to play the console releases and I realized how fast and fun it is!

Yeah those are quite a bit speedier, more often than not, but I always question AI dice rolls.
Well you could add an AI opponent but its better with friends, the PS4 version you can all use the same controller and I think you can use your phone but i dont remember. I havent played my physical copy in years.

I wish more variants got modern digital versions, like Monopoly City. you could build things to boost your neighborhood and hamper opponents.

Oh my fav is the one with the Credit Card. It made it easier but I just like using the card instead of having stacks of paper all over my table

the Genesis version is very fun, just wish there was an option to save a game in progress

There's also a Simulation RPG-like game of Life, makes me wonder if something similar couldn't be done for Monopoly

I liked Suoer Nintendo Monopoly but didn't play enough of the NES version to see if it captured the experience, which the SNES did fine.

I much prefer to play Wily & Light no Rockboard; That's Paradise! but I'd still be down for a game of Monopoly here and there.
Scrabble, Mancala, Mansions of Madness?
Even D&D, though if we went that route I'd rather play Shadowrun or Pathfinder.

I am curious as to how you cheat in Monopoly. The only one I could have thought of was that Simpsons episode of Bart using Legos to build Hotels despite already running out of hotels to build to begin with.

Monopoly is my second most favorite board game. Unfortunately my siblings are never in the mood to play it.
I really love the idea of owning properties, managing them, and the community chest ::heart
Also, robbing new, unsuspecting players by buying Mayfair and Parklane, and placing hotels early on ::lol

I play this on my own sometimes (AI multiplayer mode).

I'd regularly rob the money when my friends weren't looking lol.

Good times, man — but damn it! I just realized I haven't played it since I was a kid :(

I have multiple different Monopoly boards like Super Mario, Sailor Moon, Ghostbusters, etc. It’s just a timeless, fun game. I used to have the Deadpool one as well but a friend is a huuuuuge Deadpool fan so I didn’t mind giving it away after I played the board.

Anyway, the video games are fun, Monopoly is just one of those board games that will entertain people whether is the actual board game itself or video game form.
