Modern Online just sucks

Oh yeah my bad, lets fire up this chill game called League of Legends and have a relaxing time, I might also get again into FF XIV and do endgame content, surely people wont get mad because Im still learning how to properly clear the last boss and cant remember the skills to use... It would matter if we just take some time to clear the dungeon as well. I might even fire GT7 and hopefully that guy with a twitch url in his username wont get mad for my silly collision.

And if you have read you would know what companies could do: from simple lobbies that are not tight to SBMM so people get to know each other, to just designing more open strategies for their content, so people are not expected to just play one way or get screamed at.

GOD why are you try to torture yourself in Other game that Known Hyper Competitive play, try play Cozy games will ya? how about Coop Minecraft? or Coop Terraria? or Coop Stardew Valley? Coop Palworld? Coop Lethal Company? Coop PEAK? and MORE

Remember when online was free to play on consoles?

yea i like Playstation 1,2 and 3 and Skip 4 and 5 to PC well kinda Stuck at low End PC but Got Steam Deck as Replacement of Lost PS 4 generation

I truly do get it, but my personal experience has been a minefield across the board, with no single "safe spot" in sight.

I remember HATING ZDaemon (Online Doom) with a passion, --despite thinking it was the coolest idea ever and a dream come true--, because everyone was too preoccupied with their rank (which was always updated on the main page and which governed everything... even if you could customize your profile at all (!)) to have fun. The community was extremely racist towards non-English speakers, too (although, I believe it has gotten better since). But then you had something like Skulltag (essentially the same thing) where fun was not only possible, but also the norm.

It honestly made me question what the hell was wrong with ZD players that they could type long, racist tirades on the chat while also playing the damn game and why the SK community just didn't do that.

But those were fan efforts... the real shit was online Pro Evolution Soccer / FIFA on PS3 and beyond. I could probably write a whole book about it and have it "blessed" on Chernobyl, it was that toxic.

And, very briefly, I got to try both GTA V Online and Blaz Blue: Tag Crossover Battle... they were alright. The amount of assholes vs people just waiting to have fun was almost coin-flip even.

It's worth mentioning that in neither of those examples listed above the games were made worse because of corporate oversight, however (at least, I don't think so).

it kinda does. i want an online co op rpg with no matchmaking to form a circle around. matchmaking is too reliable and gives you no reason to stick with anyone for the rest of the game. and when people actually do organize its always for endgame type stuff or pvp. anything between that and the creation of your character is solo stuff or matchmaking. i can't stand it and it makes me want to give up on people and online multiplayer games in general. it feels too disappointing and lonely.

I think online games are just awful as a whole besides maybe a few. Team Fortress 2 was always my favourite and that generally applies to most source games of the era except Dota 2 and CS:GO since I never played them.

Back in the 90s early 00s online was fun (Unreal Tournament, Guild Wars,Counterstrike Source), today's online landscape totally sucks ass.
Had a really great time with Guild Wars, but these times are long over unfortunately. Most of the time you only get vile bullshit and people are racist as well.

So the common denominator on all of this examples is you and other people, so the community is not the problem, it is you.

Im pretty good at online racing games so that keeps my interest will be sad for me when the crew 2 gets shelved having put about 6 years of play into it.

PS3 era for me was the most fun as i used to have a mini headset mic to banter friends with people i actually knew not strangers.

im so happy i found this thread. just today, i decided today's mcc 8v8 halo 3 match wld b my lst. i realized i wasnt having fun anymore. matchmaking has utterly ruined the game for me. and sure, there's the custom browser, but lately tht feels kinda dead too.

maybe it's a skill issue. but if it isnt fun, whts the point in grinding?

i think i give up halo. it can stay in the past. an increasingly distant memory of happier gaming experiences.

Playing PES 6 on my gaming build no internet required won a game of fortnite earlier which is largely down to me playing more this season and an internet connection that didnt fail. the heat has caused my wifi all sorts of problems its not slow just our router is 4 years old need a new one i think.
