What is The Chilling Cut? Mizzurna Falls is one of the first open world games in the PS1 era, an unknown gem with impressive fits such as a fully explorable town with unique NPCs, each one with their own schedule. The premise of the game is solving a missing person case within 7 in game days, and the players need to explore in order to order to find clues and solve the mystery. The problem is, the time passage is insanely fast and borderline broken, and every person who completed it confirmed that it is near impossible to finish it […]

If you pay attention really hard, you may be able to figure out where to go. If not, play using a guide, the game is worth it.
It was unbearable to have to rush to places, some missable events happen too close to one another.
It's true that something is hinted at, but there are also plenty of arbitrary things to do with strict deadlines. The first day you have to go to the diner in the evening to do some eavesdropping, and if you don't you won't trigger the fistfight later. Also, Winona says good night at 10:30pm, but don't you dare being asleep at 5:45am the following morning or you'll miss her call (another key event). And that's just the first day

what the point of time going 4 times slower if you still have no idea where to go next ?

Oh, there is a point, actually. The first day might be the hardest of them all, you'll find yourself constantly driving all around town and barely making it in time sometimes for some of the event deadlines. You'll still need a guide (but this has always been a granted, so it's "fair"), but at least you'll be able to do it without making grimaces like this.

Hi Spike, could you upload the eboot for this? Greatly appreciated, thanks!

It's also weird that so many videogame discussions use the qualifier "technical"/technically, either accurately or not, and focus exclusively on the perception of technology. Words or concepts like "artistically" or "formally" never get used, ever, in a million years. Kind of like how silly-worded awards get given out like "Best Narrative" but there's no award or gamer-consciousness for best programming or best level design. Yet everyone goes around claiming to love the "medium."

Despite being accurate or not, I'm accustomed to people using the word "technical" in other artforms as well, so I don't immediately assume its relation to technology, but rather skill. IE, a "technically proficient guitar player" or "painter". The measure of difficulty to achieve or perform. That's just me, though.

Honestly sounds a lot more playable, thanks!

It's a Mizzurna Falls kind of morning.

I played it for awhile when the translation was first leaked and the time indeed goes by way too fast. I want to try it again with this hack.

Great game.
Cirosan build crashed after the intro movie for me.

The phrase "amazing on a technical level" is a cliche that doesn't apply most of the time. It's such a meme cliche that people even say it right alongside saying a game (i.e. the programming) is janky, as in that quote. Strangely the common meaning is something like: the game does something I didn't expect, or has a label word I don't associate with the given era, therefore, it's Amazing On A Technical Level.

The compromises involved with this game being 'open world' are clear to see. As always, if one thing needs processing, something else is de-prioritized. It's a nice and interesting design choice, not a technical feat and not technically special.

On a technical level, it really is impressive.

Not only for the open world aspect, but it has a seamless day night cycle, where every npc has a schedule to follow and different places to be. That is ambition.

The game is a jack of all trades, master of none: driving vehicles (a car and a boat), a fighting system, QTE during action sequences, even stealth and follow missions. All of that in full 3D, on the ps1.

also, there's small details like having a cellphone that you can use to make calls to npcs in the game, to try and get clues on what everyone is doing and where to go next?

It is a technical feat, and it is a special game. Sorry for the long wall of text, but i can't see someone trying to undermine it and not defend it.

Sorry, but do you think you could upload the tonyhax patch and the cirosan version of this hack together in order to play it on ps3 or do you know how? I tried doing it myself but it doesn't work as easily as that.
How did you do it?
It would go something like this.
1) apply this patch to Japanese iso
2) apply tonyhax fix patch to 1) ignoring CRC

There's a checkbox to ignore CRC in this

Yeah, great concept for a game and amazing on a technical level (overlooking the jank) but the difficulty level is absurd. I imagine this patch would help somewhat, but you're still going to spend a LOT of time wandering around just trying to figure out what to do next.

What it really needed was some sort of indicator for whether you've fully completed each day's events, so you can 'lock in' that savegame and then focus on the next day. Instead, it's entirely possible to have yourself softlocked by the end of the first day, and then spend the next 15 hours heading towards a bad ending.
"By the end"? You can lock yourself from the good ending within the first hour and a half (ingame, 9 minutes IRL pre-patch).
The original concept was meant to use Matthew's notebook extensively, but that just wasn't completed (or even started, since it only collects characters' bios and phone numbers). Matthew also happens to have unlimited funds, the whole money thing just wasn't implemented. I do recommend playing MF with a guide, since logic is not gonna help you. Many things are so arbitrary you'll find yourself saying "WHAT" out loud while following the guide. You'll still enjoy the twists and quirks, it's worth it!

Just tested both versions and I can clearly see the slowed down timer! As you suggested, I first patched the Japanese version with the 🇯🇵 Chilling Cut file, then patched the result with the Italian XDelta file. Had also to untick the checksum thing in the patcher.
Thanks!
Added thanks, I'll do Spanish too since I can't sleep.

EDIT: Added Spanish.

The author left some info on this:
1) Patch the japanese version with this hack
2) Patch with whatever translation you want (Italian, Spanish), I guess you will need to ignore incorrect CRC.
3) Pray it worked.

I have not tested this.
If you could confirm it works then I'll add it, np.

Really useful for the early days, but that won't really give you time to explore the area on the first day (and you'll still need to follow a guide to get everything right, there's no other way) since it's really relentless. I do remember ONE day, around the end of the ingame week I reckon, where you have almost nothing to do. That's probably your best chance to dig this patch 😎

I wonder if this would work with the Italian patch made by me and RickTM? ::thinking
Update: Just checked and we used the Cirosan build as a base of the 🇮🇹 patch.
