Missing the point for handheld consoles?

I don't mind Gamepass, just because it is sometimes $1. I've subbed to it a few times at that price to check out some games, but I've not used any of its other online-based features.

I only get Game pass Ultimate, but only when interesting games are in the portfolio. Next game would be probably Ninja Gaiden 4. Me neither. When I get the subscription I immediately cancel it or get only vouchers via CDKeys.

Likewise. Subscription is a pain. I also look at Xbox Live ( now Xbox Game pass), PS plus or Nintendo Online. All garbage just to get you into one eco system.

They pretty much operate like how the cults that scam people work by using what people want to do in life against them to make money. I do not think it's a fair usage of legal business at all. Sure, for online services servers does cost but preventing save files from downloading just to justify "but it costs to maintain the server that hold on to your save files so pay up or we will delete them" is next generation BS. Damn even Valve doesn't ask money for that and you can always download your save files from Steam whenever for free. Cheap methods to make money, tactical scam for easy profit is a strategic business fail!!! And now I sounded like a KMFDM song lol.

It's a shit practice by Sony, that you can't copy your save files to a USB stick for PS5 saves and only can upload it to the cloud and even than they get deleted after longer inactivity. It's one of the reasons I abandoned all consoles and just settled with Steam and PC. Fuck Nintendo, Sony and MS, especially MS starting with that pay for online shit via Xbox live.

One other use case for a wholly portable console that doesn't rely on the internet: I was without any power for about a full day recently.
I was really thankful during that time for my portable consoles being fully charged and not needing any internet connection!

That's a really great point, they can still work without power. Your console or PC can't do that, unless you're using a laptop.
