I went to see the Minecraft movie with some friends today, my expectations going into the movie was "This is a movie where it's target demographic are kids and the producers were probably people who kinda knew about Minecraft" so my expectations were set pretty low.

Approaching the movie with this mindset, I discovered that it was an enjoyable watch. Nothing spectacular to write home about, but it wasn't some steaming pile of shit that some critics are making it out to be (This is a kids movie for gods sake).
The story was serviceable, and while I didn't like every character and I think the main female cast really wasn't all that interesting.
My favorite character however, was this guy they call Garbage Man. He was a national arcade champion in the 80's, who in the modern decade still dresses like it's the 80's while acting out as this tough guy rockstar bad boy. He also runs a retro game store where you can notice some cool stuff in the background, like a box for the Magnavox Odyssey somewhere in the back or the toy robot R.O.B. sitting on the counter.

I've seen some complains when the movie was first revealed that the character designs for the game's mobs look really bad. In-retrospective, I think they made the right call with what they made. I think it would've looked actually way more terrible if the movie had regular ass Minecraft graphics with Jack Black's fatass flopping about in front of a greenscreen for an hour, looking like some "Minecraft In Real Life" Youtube video.
The look of the movie really reminded me of something I've already seen before. I wasn't able to quite put my finger on it at first, until I saw what the Piglets looked like during the screening. Then it clicked, this look of mobs really reminded me of the Warcraft 3/WoW cinematics, the Piglets really reminded me of Orcs with their tusks and how their mouths flapped n' all.

There were some cool details thrown in there that made sense within the context of the game, like using a water bucket to negate damage or punching Creepers away to keep them from exploding on you.

So what do you think?
Have you watched the movie already and do have an opinion on whether it was good or bad?
Maybe you haven't watched it but are planning to or perhaps you simply just don't care for video game movies?
I'm interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions.

It’s ok, I never went into it expecting anything good much less when it was announced, it’s an easy IP that’s controversy would’ve brought it profit anyway.

I liked the design’s, they grew on me, and Garbage Man was funny solely for the fact that the plethora of memes about him made him seem far cooler than he should’ve been.

I was too busy being pissed off by that awful new Devil May Cry show to be mad at A Minecraft Movie. The film looks bad, but harmless, and I have no urge to watch it.

I'd rather shove a stick up my ass than watching that movie.

Lmao. How about neither, though? I rather set 10 dollars on fire than spend it watching the Minecraft movie.

I have no illusions that its gonna be bad. I'm actually hoping it's bad. I am getting some buddies together, and were gonna MST3K that shit. We're gonna get some brews and wings first so we're in the right headspace

Going to see this tomorrow night, I am scared it wont be a Dragonball Evolution like experience.

How could it not be? Where's the amazing story to be told from the Minecraft universe?

I saw the RLM 'review' went up yesterday and watched a little bit of it. I'm not going to see the movie but I did come up with a better version in my head in the span of about 20 minutes.
For those of you going to/have seen it lemme know how it compares:

The film centers around an adolescent boy named Steve and his older sister Alex. They used to be close and played MineCraft together but she's growing up and has less time to spend with him, and their parents are going through a rocky patch that looks like divorce is on the table.

One day he's playing Minecraft on his Microsoft Xbox One Entertainment System (or his Microsoft Windows 11 Home Edition PC) and he finds a mysterious new block he's never seen before. None of his MineCraft YouTube Content Creators have ever talked about it (cameo some Tubers here to pop the kids) and his sister brushes him off. He goes back to the game and mines it and uses an in game Achievement popup's advice to built a Nether Portal with it sitting at the center. When he does this, the power in the house goes out and everything starts shaking and him and his sister get sucked into the Minecraft world, yadda yadda they can't believe it, he does tries to convince her, she's annoyed and wants to go back but the Portal is destroyed by a suped up Ender Dragon or something. They try to find shelter and escape into a village where some stupid gags happen with the Villagers.

During the night they get caught and taken away. When they get dumped out of a big burlap sack they're introduced to STEVE (played by Jack Black) who has brought them to his base which is very plain. STEVE is confushed on how other people got here and wonders if they're a new addition in the new version. Steve asks him why he's using such old stuff and he's like "What do you mean? This is 1.1" "Yeah... 1.1 ALPHA!"

So Steve leads STEVE in upgrading all his gear and getting new blocks and stuff, rebuilds his base into a mega castle and fixes the village etc. He's flourishing in this world and everyone adores and respects him because he's really knowledgeable about the game. Alex is trying to find a way to get back home in time for her Prom date and this creates tension in the siblings. Meanwhile, STEVE begins acting suspicious. He reveals later while they're eating (Hunger is new to him) that there is an enemy out there, one who used to be a Hero...

Herobrine defeats STEVE in an attack on the castle where he leads Illagers and Pigmen. Steve can't beat them all and begs Alex for help because she's the HyPixel #1 All Time Bow Spleef and Bed Wars champion. She doesn't want to play this stupid game anymore but takes up some armor and a diamond sword when Steve is hurt in the fight. Herobrine retreats from her and takes STEVE into the Nether.

They pursue and do something in there and save STEVE. He has a heart to heart with Steve that he needs to go back to the real world. It's not fair to Alex and his parents are actually very worried. He shows him through an Ender Eye or something that they are upset in the real world, filing police reports and crying together. It turns out that the only way to make the Portal back to the real world is to find that rare Block again and rebuild the portal, so they begin the dangerous journey of crossing the biomes and seeing all the mobs blah blah. They need something from The End and the final fight is vs the Ender Dragon ridden by Herobrine. There's a fakout death by STEVE who forgot he was holding an Idol or Totem or whatever it's called and they make the Portal, say goodbye, and jump through.

Back in the real world they have a nice reunion and it turns out that STEVE has been brought through as well. He reacts funnily to the daylight and round items like a car wheel and a pizza. He runs away screaming into a Diner. The old woman at the counter recognizes him as her 'baby boy STEVE!' who went missing 10 years ago and shows him the Missing Child poster that's just his face as a 50+ year old man like current day. They embrace as Steve and Alex catch up. The film ends with STEVE turning around over his shoulder and saying to Steve "Now you gotta show me those MODS!"

Same dude. I tried that with Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City a couple years ago and regretted it. They screwed it up so unbelievably bad, especially my man Leon

When I worked at a cinema this was the first movie I remember that I had to kick a customer out for being super loud and yapping on her phone. Ended up checking out the movie a few years later and I did her a favour imo.

I heard it sucks

I saw it and will say it was corny but that "it's so corny that it's funny"
