Mina the Hollower

I'm only about halfway through, but I am really enjoying it so far! I haven't played that many Zelda style top-down action adventure games so I find myself getting stuck quite a bit, even when it seems very obvious in retrospect. Figuring out where to go next is often harder than the combat for me. I also feel like the Bosses are far too easy but everything else about the game is genuinely phenomenal. Yacht Club has done it again!

I've felt like this too during the game but final boss i found challenging. Also they start to deal more damage the more you progress in game, which I find tasteful. But during the first half you can pretty much facetank everything and spam charge hammer (best weapon in the game obviously). I will do other runs with other weapons in the future, shield is intriguing.

Thoughts on this? Bought it a couple of days ago and really been liking it

Tbf though, I was tired of the game royally kicking my ass and started using some of the "easy mode" modifiers, which has really improved my enjoyment of it

I'm just still waiting for Rune Fencer Illyia. It's been like 6 years now. Every time I think surely it's already out by now when I google search for it I end up having to wait another year. It's supposedly coming out this year. It'd be my luck that it'd end up not being a good game anyway

It is fucking peak! Final dungeon borders on kaizo insanity at times but aside from that I adored the game. Finished with 73% completion and my second run will be me going for 100%!

NO WAY IT FINALLY GOT RELEASED!

Got some hours into it and I am loving every second of it.

I just completed it a couple of hours ago. I was really looking forward to this game. HUGE King Knight fan.

For Mina the Hollower, though, I mainly just didn't enjoy the gameplay. Whether it be objective or personal, there are a lot of negatives I can say about that aspect of it. To put it simply, I just wasn't having a lot of fun with it. Which sucks too, cause I really wanted to like it and still do.

However, I feel as though everything else was great. The music and sound design is fantastic and the pixel art and visuals are top notch. Like when you enter a new area for the first time, they do these scenic transitions that are stunning. Some shots with parallax and other techniques in different areas. With the music you can tell its the same team, which isnt a bad thing! Some characters are very memorable and dialog is polished.

Is this a good game? Yes. Did i have fun? No. Can others? Absolutely
I think there's a lot to love about this game but also a lot to hate
I might want to give a more proper review but Im tired now

Thats a bummer. Sorry that the gameplay didnt land with you. I guess its pretty subjective. What part do you think it is specifically? The hollowing mechanic? The top-down style? The weapons? Bosses? Something else?

I'm on the last dungeon (I think) now and I'm honestly loving the game! Its a little easy once you find certain trinkets imo but I still die at least once to most bosses until I switch my trinkets around from exploration mode to boss fight mode. I like that there are secrets everywhere. Looking at the map in the underlab, I need to go back and find several secrets I missed apparently.

Apparently Yuzo Koshiro cowrote two tracks in the game OST. Thought that was neat.

I'm about over half way completed and loving this game. The beginning almost had me drop it because Mina was so under powered but now that I've leveled up and gotten used to the controls I've had so much fun with the game!
I also love finding little secret places in areas I've already traversed through.

Would love to know what those tracks are. I'll have to keep an ear out and see if I recognize his style from any of the tracks I've heard so far.
