Might and Magic: Fates

Not interested, will never play.

I just enjoy HoMM3 with the HD mod.

But Ubisoft is only making the same marketing moves that Steam did well before with TH2 hats, and non-transferable licences for games. They just say out loud what the whole industry is thinking.

I like also HoMM3 One of my favorite series all times

Just how far is Might and Magic going to fall?
First the spinoff ends up more popular than the main series.
Then they end up removing all of the sci-fi elements, because the people who were attracted to the series via the spinoff, hate it when sci-fi is mixed in with their high-fantasy.
And now we get a crappy blockchain mobile game. ::sadkirby

As a side note, I've been enjoying Might and Magic Clash of Heroes, a Ubisoft mobile/DS game with M&M flavor mixing match 3 and tRPG game design. It's the perfect game to emulate on a smartphone with MelonDS and the touchscreen controls. Ubisoft was already using the licence as a plug 15 years ago but it doesn't mean they're all bad games.

I still wouldnt have paid for it tho... XD

Um... Are you talking about the same series? Because the games that ditch the Sci-Fi, Heroes of Might and Magic V and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic are regarded by many as masterpieces and some of the best games of the 2000s.

Exactly. Did you not read what I wrote? ::confused

I said that they ditched the sci-fi elements because the spinoffs attracted an audience of people who didn't like sci-fi in their high-fantasy (which eclipsed the audience for the original games). And then you've just proven my point by saying that the two spinoffs which ditch the sci-fi are the most well regarded.

I mean don't get me wrong, it's nice that people enjoy the Might and Magic games when the sci-fi is removed. But it's like getting a spinoff of Kingdom Hearts with the Final Fantasy stuff removed, it being considered the best in the series for "not having that stupid Final Fantasy stuff", and then future games taking note.

The mix of Sci-Fi and High-Fantasy is what makes the Might and Magic games so endearing!
Yet it's all but gone, because it's not popular enough. If that isn't a fall from grace, I don't know what is.
I mean, I can't even name any modern media, games or otherwise, which blends Sci-Fi and High-Fantasy in the same way Might and Magic does. So imagine being one of the few people who loved that concept and seeing it taken away because the original niche audience (which was around for well over a decade) isn't large enough. It's like finding a brilliant hot curry place, then it suddenly end up only serving mild curries, because they sold better. I mean good for them, but you can get mild curries anywhere. But curries that hot, you could only find there.

I hope that explains it. There's nothing wrong with those games. They're good games, great even (especially Dark Messiah). But that's in spite of being Might and Magic games, not because they are Might and Magic games.

OH, Okay!

Does World of Enroth (MM 6-8) have sci-fi elements? I'll play it regardless, but I'm genuinely curious. World of Xeen had major bookoo science fiction elements.
