We've gotten past the halfway point of the year about a week and a half ago. (time sure does fly by fast huh?) Because of this this, i'd like to pose a question. What has been your "Game Of The Year" so far? Im expecting to see alot of "Expedition 33s" in the comments, maybe some "Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's" sprinkled here and there. "Death Stranding 2" released not too long ago and it seems people are just finishing up that game and sharing all their thoughts about it.

PERSONALLY, i havent played many games from this year. Ive beaten "DOOM: The Dark Ages", but thats about it so far, im about an hour into "Expedition 33" right now, "Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3+4" just dropped a few days ago, ive been playing a bit of that. There's also some games this year that i havent gotten around to buying yet but really enjoyed the demos of. One of them being "Ruffy and the Riverside". Absolutely gorgeous 2D platformer in an art style similar to something youd see in "Paper Mario" game.

As for now, mine would be DOOM by default, but let me know what you all are playing and enjoying this year!

I haven't played anything from this year, mostly because I gave up on modern gaming, but if I were to guess, I'd go with Expedition 33

I have some of my own.... I guess you could say "disillusions" with modern gaming as a whole as well, but im curious to which why you feel this way.

Alot of my issues come down to the gaming space feeling really homogenized now without some of the uniqueness that was extremely prevalent in the 6th Gen and SOME of the 7th.

Also with the price of game development rising, i feel developers are less inclined to make really weird/somewhat experimental & quirky games as they used to. They gotta feed their families and one wrong move can just crumble a studio now, so i think many of the games now play it really safe for stability reasons.

i havent played them yet but the coolest looking ones to me are the new Doom and The First Berzerker Kazahn

I don't think a video game released since 2016 even deserves a GOTY title because they are not a game to start with. They may be "Less Rubbish of the Year" (LROTY) though lol.

Honestly? It’s a toss up between Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 & AI Limit. Both of them captivated me utterly to completion. BUT if I’m including older games? Then that’s a different ballpark entirely (I don’t always play new games).

For me, it's Clair Obscur far out in front, with Blue Prince in distant second

Wasn't this game deemed as a disappointment compared to Eternal?

And defaulting for Doom may sound a bit of favouritism if the GotY awards gave it one.

Expedition 33 is fine but I wouldn't be a chauvinist just because it's made by French devs.

Doom 2016, Eternal, Zelda BotW among many good indie ones are existing.

They are nothing to me. Out of the context of if a game is "good", they are not better games than older games so their existence is pointless to me.

I rather play Zero Tolerance on my Sega Genesis instead of Doom 2016 and I rather play Super Mario instead of Eternal lol.

As for Zelda BOTW, it's like 3D version of Terraria with 1% of its context that played a lot mostly because of Linkle mod and whatnot. I would rather play Crazy Bus because at least it doesn't force you to do anything with forced tutorial BS lol, otherwise same empty games lol.

Imagine Link as the bus and boom Zelda BOTW is not so different!!1 You just go!!!!! Same genre as Death Stranding is but at least it has BS cutscenes to watch to satisfy your Netflix hunger lol. If you wanna go that much from now on do my grocery shopping for me, and if you want cutscene let me tell you about my army days for hours!!! lol

Liking these games are even insult to NES games lol.

It's between Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

While I grew to really enjoy DOOM: The Dark Ages over the course of the campaign, it started slow, I didn't like how all of the NPC's just stood around and didn't fight alongside you, and I found the story to be uninteresting. That said, the gameplay loop was absolute perfection. I enjoyed the more grounded shield-based combat than the chaotic nature of Eternal.

As simple as games becoming absurdly expensive and unoptimized. It's classist and makes a lot of people not be able to keep up to date with their favorite medium.

Of course, I'm talking about AAA gaming and beyond. There are still games that are about to come that I'm interested in. UNBREAKABLE is the biggest example.

Oh, yeah, now that I remember, I DID play two games from this year: Everhood 2 and Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana. Everhood 2 is very flawed (I still enjoyed it), and Ys Memoire actually came out in 2023, but only in Japan. It came out of there this year.

Mario Kart is nice...

Damn, yeah, not a lot to talk about this year....
*boots up Final Fantasy IX*......

It got some mixed reactions depending on what side of the internet youre on.Twitter was not a big fan of this game when it released and that's the platform were i saw most of the hate come from. In general though ive seen a mostly positive reaction to the game, rounding out at about an 8/10 for most people.

As far as being a disappointment compared to Eternal, it genuinely depends on who you ask. If you ask me, disappointment isnt the right word for how i feel, i was excited for the game and absolutely enjoyed my time with it, but DOOM Eternal is IMO the best game in the entire franchise and one of my favorite games OAT. It not matching Eternal was kind of expected and not shocking for me, its big shoes to fill.

I do know others who actually don't care for Eternal as much as they do DOOM 2016, but enjoyed The Dark Ages more than Eternal. Youre gonna hear alot of different opinions when it comes to this game honestly.
Oblivion Remastered
I genuinely forgot that released, good pick!

Admittedly yea, everything either got pushed back or is releasing later this year.

Me too, I was thinking what did I play this year and then I remembered the 90 hours I put into that game and yeah, that's my pick lol Monster Hunter Wilds could also be my GOTY.

I'm waiting to play Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill F and The Outer Worlds 2, those look like strong contenders for me.

I tried Expedition 33 on Gamepass, after starting the game and moving the character the french girl said "follow me" and ran so fucking fast it was looney tunes comical. I just dropped it there lmao, maybe another time.

In all honestly I could care less about GOTY I got several games each year that I liked allot so can´t pick one. Also just the real GOTY when they pick one it´s just for companies to wank each other off pretending they are some kings on making games but some fucking how they manage to make 1 good game and several MEH or even BAD games.

So honestly Frack GOTY just give me top 10 games you enjoyed the most so far don´t inflate the EGO of the undeserving.
