Because both the console & more prominently the Mobile markets have normalised buying all-in-one products. The success of Apple closed ecosystem in particular put the hobbiest mentality of building & repairing hardware on a countdown to destruction.
The automotive industry has been down the same path for decades. It's death blow being electric vehicles reliance lithium batteries, onboard computers and all in one electric motors you can't access for maintained. Only replace when they inevitably fail- this is 100% deliberate by design.

If AI is the death blow to PC Building, I'm not going to claim the writing hasn't been on the wall since 2007 and the launch of the Iphone.
The public will always chose convenience over self reliance. Everything will become a subscription service- the unfortunate natural evolution of a warranty because repairing things is hard.

Every horror which currently exists was foretold.

What a weird thing for a company to do. It feels like they've chosen the worst way to go about it. If I were them, I would just announce simply that due to increased demand, they wouldn't manufacture any consumer RAM kits for the next year or so. It's true, and given current trends I think a lot of people would understand. Instead, they're completely shuttering their consumer RAM division, meaning that when the bubble inevitably pops, or RAM prices inevitably return to normal, they're just completely out of one of their major markets for no reason.

Exactly. This thread has been basically hijacked by doomposters who have no idea of how this works. I bet that they're so full of "You will own nothing" fears that they haven't even bothered to look up the Dotcom bubble or Bitcoin bubble.

Ideally, government(s) would pass legislation to prevent any more "____ bubbles" from happening in the future, but it seems like they're all okay with the bubbles getting more all-encompassing and severe as time goes on.

Anyhow, people are just super tired and stressed because conditions in general have only deteriorated since the Dotcome and Bitcoin bubbles. Doesn't seem fair to dismiss their worries as doomposting.
