Ride the Lightning! Hands Down!
For Whom the Bell Tolls still one of the best if not their best song for me imo!

Also Ishiwatari Daisuke is a fan too cuz' Ride the Lightning was one Ky Kiske's Moves in the Guilty Gear Series among it's many Rock and Metal Influences.

even back in the late 80's - was a much bigger Slayer fan n later - the various other thrash bands of the time

2 things I grew to like/respect about Metallica past their seminal 80's work:

1.) starting with Death Magnetic, their main albums incorporated a nice mix of their styles past/present/future (save maybe the nu-metuLz direction on St. Anger)
2.) even on St. Anger, for better or worse - their refusal to shorten their songs (except maybe Hardwired's opening title-track)

whatever one thinks of MetaLLica in the grand scheme of things - would be hard to argue that there's anything out there quite like them even as they are right now.

I had no idea it was referenced in guilty gear

I only like their first 5 albums. Not a fan of load or anything else.

I'm totally ignorant about this band, but years ago at the gym I found out about this song and immediately loved it.

Definitely Justice for me, that album is a masterpiece of progressive thrash. The title track, Blackened, Dyer's Eve, Frayed Ends of Sanity, One; hell yeah. The famous terrible production aside (there's literally no discernable bass due to the alleged inner band issues at the time), it's some good stuff.

After that, I'd say Master of Puppets of course then my third is Hardwired, love that album.

And I will say this; St. Anger has some good songs on it, and wouldn't have been as widely dunked on if any other band then Metallica put it out. With a bit of significant trimming on every song, and re-recording the drums, I think it could actually be good. Unnamed Feeling, the title track, Frantic; there's some good ideas in there.

Hopefully some people show up lol

Metallica stopped being fun when they ran out of Mustaine's riffs.
the trve godfather of thrash

what to do when the The Four Horsemen's horses break down? hire the MECHANIX

here is how I'd rank USA thrash bands that started in the 80's:

1.) Slayer
2.) Megadeth
3.) Death Angel
4.) Overkill
5.) Dark Angel
6.) Anthrax
7.) Exodus
8.) Testament
9.) Metallica (which is not to say I necessarily dislike 'mur-TaLL-ican... but if someone identifies Metallica as their fav band that usually carries the heavy implication that said music listener doesn't listen to all that much other metuLz outside of alt-metal, groove metal and/or Sabbath trad. doom - hey, there's exceptions to everything so I'm sure that is not always an accurate takeaway! n who cares if you listen to much 'r33L' metal or not - leave that to us dorkface hipsterism-happy undieground losers xD )

if Teutonic thrash were included Kreator would probably be #3 with Sodom up thaRR a febbit (n how bout that new Destruction? Schmier n co. takin it up a nacht-notch!). UK? XENTRIX n BOLT THROWER D000D [RIP LATTER]. early death like... well, Death (!derp) n Possessed were partly thrash as deathmetal had not developed yet into its shining, pioneered conventions... n hey Mr. Bungle is my fav band ever n on their '86 demo n 2020 remake they were thrash too! j u s s a Y i N.

so I take it you are an exception n I am wrong as I mused is possible? even if not - I caLL'd my sort the nerdz man lol there's plenty of other music besides the more inaccessible stuPH - I have no problem enjoying even souLLess pop if there's somethin appeaLing about it - which has happened. more the exception than the rule ofc but stiLL - I give just about anything the ol' coLLege try or w/e ze shit ^_^

I like only their first 3 albums and sometimes " ...and justice for all ."

Im more for Testament , Razor ,Onslaught and Annihilator .

I loved Metallica but got burned out from their music . For me its overplayed but there are good reasons why its a beloved band and why almost every song of them is used for ads , trailers and even movies .
