I was wondering if anyone else has had issues running Metal Max 2 Reloaded and Metal Max 3 on original hardware using twilightmenu++ for your flashcard? Maybe it’s because I emulate DS games on my DS Lite? But when I play these games, it always ends up freezing on me within 20 minutes of gameplay and I just gave up and played on my phone, but stopped because playing DS on the phone isn’t the same as playing on original hardware, and this is coming from a guy who finished all three OG GTA games on my phone and actually preferred it that way. But ignore my deterring tangent, it’d be helpful if anyone could help. If not, then I guess it wasn’t meant to be.

These games have been known to be somewhat problematic, sadly, even accurate emulators sometimes result in crashing (so it's not exclusively a hardware thing).

I love this series, and not trying to step on your feet, I would agree with that statement about emulators in general. But in this particular case, and in MY experience I had no Issues running Metal Max 3 on an Android tablet using the Drastic emulator. Shit, I just happened to go up and re-read the OP, I think he wants to run it on OG hardware. Sorry, foot in mouth day for me.

No worries, no feet stepped on here, and I love the series too. I've seen reports of spurious crashes happening for people using MelonDS, though, for example (quite accurate emulator).

Well sure, and maybe it's my confusion. Well that's almost always the case, so maybe you can help me. The OP was emulating DS software on a DS, why?

Because Twlight Menu++ is a sort of specialized loader that allows for better performance in some cases (for example, upping the emulated clock, if you happen to be running a DS game on a DSi or 3DS).

@RageBurner
gotcha. Similar in thinking to how you would root an Android phone/tab.

I emulate a lot of DS games on original hardware (because I’m poor). Most games play perfectly fine, I don’t like playing games on my phone anymore, especially RPGs. I try and separate my phone from gaming these days. Unfortunately, when I play Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey on TwilightMenu++ on my flash cart it crashes as well. When I tried playing Metal Max 2 reloaded on YSMenu it simply wouldn’t start, which is why I downloaded twilight menu, so I can play Metal Max etc. but when I played Chrono Trigger DS for hours on the DS, it worked fine. Which is why I’m confused. I understand why the Metal Max crash on me when I emulate on TwilightMenu++ because those games were translated to English, but SMT Strange Journey doesn’t make sense to me as to why it would crash, which bummed me out.

Right, something like that. A DSi is about twice as powerful as a base DS, but games aren't natively able to harness that extra CPU clock and RAM. Normally the result is that slowdowns are all but eliminated, things load in faster and so on, but it doesn't tend to affect games that use the maximum cartridge size for the system, in my experience.

So I played both games using the Drastic Ds emulator on my raspberry pi. Did not have any issue or any crashes. Be warned that both games has crashed (plus a few other games) on my android version of Drastic Ds, and my raspberry pi is very very outdated. If you want, I can try to find the version if you want it.

I've been using a DS pico on my 3ds and my original fat DS to play metal max 3. There are some odd slowdowns at times but never any crashes. I haven't tried it in twilight menu so not sure if that's the problem. Tbh I prefer being able to use a flashcart over twilight menu. It sounds like it might be the copy of the game you're using.
