Memory Cards

I don't think I ever had an official Gamecube memory card come to think of it. I had the blue Gameshark 16X card for ages and actually thought I'd lost it (did find it again after I moved, but it was kind of old and dusty, so I copied the saves over to a generic 128MB card that I got off of Amazon before I found the other one)

Honestly I might grab a generic one myself soon and just hope it holds up. Right now I'm using one of the third party Nyko ones from when I first got a gamecube in 2002 or 2003 and it's almost full which is a pain in the ass if you play games that take up a lot of space ::sailor-embarrassed

I had the Gamecube memory card that could store 1019 blocks. I felt so powerful as a kid, never had to delete my saves ::peacemario
I currently have a 128mb one for my PS2 (appropriately named "Big Black") and I've got my fairly substantial save games on there with tons of room to spare. Only problem is that some PS2 games refuse to save to it like DBZ Budokai 1 and Sega Classics Collection, which is odd. Simpsons Road Rage also took friggin' forever to load when I had it inserted

Memory cards were kind of neat because they were an extremely simple and reliable way to keep and transfer your save data between consoles. Nowadays we have cloud backups, but those have actually betrayed me a couple times.

Probably the most "iconic" memory cards of my childhood were the standard grey PS1 ones, which never seemed to fail. By the time the Gamecube and PS2 came along there were larger-capacity, third-party memory cards on the market, but everyone failed to mention that those were prone to breaking or getting their data corrupted.

Still, an 8MB memory card... that kind of storage capacity is risible now. We all complain about how online play used to be free, but memory storage is one thing that we now take for granted.

one came free with Animal Crossing, but the size of the save file takes up most of it. It was only 59mb. It did come with an exclusive NES game that you could play. I ended up having to buy a 251mb card for everything else like Smash, SA2B, ect. Never needed another card after that.

My random fact about a memory card I still own.
A black, nintendo original 251 block memory card I own for GameCube is one I... Did not likely legally obtain. Store display unit gamecube was not locked correctly back in 200X and after noticing it I just... Took the memory card. I was wondering why it had one and it did not need it.

Well, I found out it did, none of the store demo discs functioned for weeks. Nintendo likely had interest data or something stored in the cards. And I deleted that rare data for Mario Kart and Donkey Konga.

Yes I admitted a 20 year old petty crime and I still have the goods.

that might be worth preserving

that thing so sexy ::fire

dude, fuck those PSP magic card duo things. SO expensive holy fuck

also i remember when i was moving back to Virginia from New Jersey when i was a kid. I had accidentally packed my Gamecube memory cards which my Dad already took down with him. I started up a new game of Sonic Adventure DX and mad the ballzy risky move of 100%ing it without a memory card thinking I'd be able to save once I put the card in later....

lets just say yeah... i cried a lot of tears later that week xD

also, obligatory pick of my animal crossing gamecube memory card:

its have 59mb ?

Memory cards is the best accessory for a console ever invented. I miss them so much and they removed them not because technology does not need them but because they want to control whatever we have inside our devices. The first time I heard about saves that can't be copied outside the console was with PS3 and I was so disappointed I wanted to commit suicide lol.
For me? The Xbox 360 Memory card. I think its the last memory card sold on a console

This memory card is what made me keep using my original Xbox 360 instead of the Slim model. I remember the day I went to a store and they were on clearance. I got two 256MB and one 512MB for 3€ in total :D.

PS2 memory cards have MagicGate technology and some games use it. It means you can't use chinese memory cards that are not officially supported by Sony with those games, and those cards are only 8MB in size. I have a couple of third party PS2 memory cards that support MagicGate from Kemco, but the rest are official Sony memory cards. I also have 128MB chinese memory cards and they work alright with games that don't use MagicGate but they are way slower than official ones, not worth it in my humble opinion unless that's your only option.

OMG saaaaaame, i love the original Xbox 360! Its from a time where they had no idea what the future will have. I love consoles with custom faceplates, its why I bought a Standard PS4 recently. I love customizing my consoles.

I always wanted to use the Tales of Vesperia faceplate :3
