Memory cards rocked!
I mean they didn’t, but they KINDA did! I always thought it was a cool concept as a kid that a little thing like that housed your entire gaming life, and how you could bring it to your friends and copy save files with each other.

Which memory cards do you like the most? Any fond memories of them, or horrible tales of how the neighbor kids deleted your 100 hour saves? Share ’em!

For me, I loved those off-brand Gamecube memory cards that were shaped like a mini Gamecube.

I absolutely loved the Dreamcast VMU as a kid!

The idea of a memory card that doubled as a simple handheld felt so novel, and I loved how certain games had UI elements like healthbar's and such on the VMU screen during gameplay.

My brother tends to delete my save files lol but I only cared about 2 of them:

1st one was on PS1. I played Need for Speed High Stakes a lot and earned lots of money to buy Mclaren. That's an expensive supercar. Before I could even enjoy it fully, my brother decided to troll me, damn little brat. He was like "Imma delete this save file" by going to the memory card tab and selecting the game's save file and stay on that. He had no idea you could even delete the save file when you pressed square button or something like that BS when its confirmation button was X button. So he didn't really intent to delete it, he just loves to annoy me, the ducker piece of rubbish, so I whipped him until he bought my Mclaren back.

Other one was Bully's save file on PS2. It's GTA in school. I unlocked taking pictures feature so I really took cool pictures and saved into the memory card that day. I planned to find a way to take pictures of these pictures on screen or print them out or something. So, my brother wanted to play a game and just deleted specifically Bully's save file when he could have ask me and delete something else but nopeeeee. It wasn't like Mclaren situation. The pics were so funny and I took pictures of random moments that can never happen and I cannot take these pictures back. So we spent our day me American Wrestling that little ducker again lol.

Now he is taller than me but still a little ducker lol. At least he never messed with my Gran Turismo save files or I swear I would send him out of Earth lol. He even deleted my GTA SA save files but it was ok, I always replay the game anyway lol.

ps1
one time i was a at my friends house and i was going to copy over my yu gi oh forbiden memories save file
my save file had a cards deck you could beat the game with easy
when i try to copt over the save file to his memory card.
something went wrong with his ps1 and it destroyed all save files on his and mine memory card i was so mad
the 3 save files i was most mad over that i hade lost was
1 yu gi oh forbiden memories 2 crash bandicoot 2 3 crash bash
after that i did learn always have 2 memcard so i can use the second memory card as backup

dude, fuck those PSP magic card duo things. SO expensive holy fuck

also i remember when i was moving back to Virginia from New Jersey when i was a kid. I had accidentally packed my Gamecube memory cards which my Dad already took down with him. I started up a new game of Sonic Adventure DX and mad the ballzy risky move of 100%ing it without a memory card thinking I'd be able to save once I put the card in later....

lets just say yeah... i cried a lot of tears later that week xD

also, obligatory pick of my animal crossing gamecube memory card:

And memory cards of PS1 and PS2 are in a way over time they stop working too, especially as a file is read and written.

For example, the last time my PS2's backup FMCB memory card (special memory card that allow you to break PS2 so you can play games without disc) just stopped working. Since it was a backup memory card I was checking from time to time to see if it still working so by using the backup FMCB memory card I can fix issues on my main FMCB memory card but what a twist lol I had to use my main one to fix backup. It's like president of America protecting his security dudes lol.

I remember going to every Gamestop in the area with my older brother desperately trying to find a PS1 memory card so I could play FFVII. We finally found one at the University Mall in Tampa, when malls were still something people went to. It had a really nice German import store too. Good times.

I love memory cards of ps1 and PS2 I still using them and I still buy them because I still have many PS2 games to play

(Although I wish my store has a more bytes of memory card than 8mb)

While I understand why memory cards eventually were obsoleted, I think one of the best parts about them is buying them used and seeing everything the previous owner had done and played. It's a very strange but almost religious experience and every memory card truly has a story to tell from the written dates and the playtimes to the entered names and the games themselves.

But best ones are 8 MB ones due to durability because PS2 is designed to work with 8 MB memory cards. So if a non-8 MB memory card had to be bought it would be whatever one that's memory splitted by 8 MB, no more or less, but its system gotta work okay too, not to mention it gotta be made with decent parts so it can survive more than 1 year or something because they can be that rubbish.

Well I solved lack of enough memory card space and have to buy more memory cards issues by using FMCB (you install it on memory card to break PS2) and then you can use OPL (the program that let's you play PS2 game without disc) and thus OPL can save virtual memory card file into your USB or your PC via SMB (Windows' file sharing protocol) by connecting your PS2 with your PC via LAN cable or just connect HDD/SSD on your PS2. SMB is awesome though, I just put my PS2 game into a specific folder on my PC and boom my PS2 sees the game and thus I play it. What a magical technology lol.

So, my PS2 save files directly saved on my PC as VMC files and then I backup them. Easy peasy eggs are tasty lolol.
