MEMORABLE GAME QUOTES!

"Nanomachines, son! They harden in response to physical trauma. You can't hurt me, Jack."

"then again i don't have an eight inch cock, so i guess we're both full of suprises"
"They try to put their stake in everything they see. Nobody's dick's that long, not even Long Dick Johnson, and he had a fucking long dick. Thus, the name".

- Rose of Sharon Cassidy, Fallout New Vegas.

And then also:

"Maybe you were right, maybe the slow death is worse than the fast one. Maybe none of these men are good. Maybe a world in which they came to us is a world that we cannot endure. But endure we must. Do not die for pride my son. We have suffered too much in this trick. The earth, the water... they have no pride. They endure, and we must endure. My only boy, my precious boy, do not mistake my strenght for weakness".

- Rain Falls, Red Dead Redemption 2-

"All that is good in me, began with you, father"

- Darim Ibn-La'Ahad, Assassin's Creed Revelations.

"Tomorrow is a hope, never a promise".

- Kindred, League of Legends.

"Some are born with talent and some aren't, that's true. That said, people born with talent never make it on talent alone. They overcome. Find boundaries and break them. The only way to grow is to be challenged. You aren't exactly wrong, so if I'm the wall you need to scale, I'll let you try. But you may find it so high, you never want to try again. The taste will be enough".

- Kiryu Kazuma, Yakuza 5.

I do love myself some quotes.

Snake: Find something to believe in, and find it for yourself. When you do, pass it on to the future.
Raiden: Believe in what?
Snake: That's your problem.
Such a perfect encapsulation of Raiden's character arc. And Snake's pithy reply is icing on the cake.

Oh Disco Elysium is full of words.
Volition my beloved.

"The road to healing is going to be a long one. Stay the course. You will make it, someday. I know there's not much to say, but if nothing else just remember that you made it this far and it's just a bit farther now"

And pretty much everything Volition says, god I love this game.

Also these phasmid lines really hit hard for me:

"That must be incredibly hard. The arthropods are in silent and meaningless awe of you. Know that we are watching - when you're tired, when the vision spins out of control. The insects will be looking on. Rooting for you. And when you fall we will come to raise you up, bud from you, banner-like, blossom from you and carry you apart in a sky funeral. In honour of your passing. (But not me, cause I am just a leaf eater.)"

House of the Dead Overkill is full of them for me. Lots of the banter between Isaac and Agent G.:
"Conver fucking sation?" "YES! Conver mother fucking sation!"
"What the fuck does a brother have to do to pacify a bitch? I have shown respect, charm, under fucking standing! But that was the last fucking straw!"
"Ladies and gentlemen, the infinite tact of Isaac Washington. You do, truly you do, use your tongue better than a $30 hooker. "

Other notable mentions for me.:
"I'm not going to take orders from a dead man!" -Strider
"Go home and be a family man!" - Guile
"Wax on , wax off, I'm still kicking your ass!" - Gene

"Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away."

I'm not sure I understand. Kojima thought it was better, released it back in Japan because he thought it was better, then had the guy fired?
Essentially, Kojima's themes are deep and he can be a great writer overall however his dialogue isn't the best, it's why it comes across as stilted a sit does when it is 1:1 at times. A bit like George Lucas for some dialogue though I would argue George wrote people to sound like people and that doesn't sound too well to peoples ears when watching a movie at times.

The guy whom translated MGS on ps1 took liberties with the dialogue so it flowed better, this is often done during translation and isn't wrong so long as the meaning and intent is still the same but just flows better, so long as it doesn't change the meaning or intent, the issue arises with translation is when the meaning or intent is changed, either intentionally or otherwise.. He also took some extra liberties such as Snakes one liners, I personally love these.

IMO The twin snakes has worse dialogue than the ps1 version, though I still greatly enjoyed most of Kojimas stuff, I am aware the best dialogue in his games are the mgs 1 original translation and phantom pain, the rest can be a bit hammy in terms of dialogue.

But yes, he adored the western verison of the story so much he had it re released in Japan and then he discovered how much he altered the dialogue and had the translator sacked. The meaning and intent behind 99% of the dialogue and all the important bits was not changed. It would be more of a splitting hairs type of complaint, didn't hurt Kojimas pride any less though. Death stranding has some silly moments simply because of the dialogue and names. It sounds good to his ears as he is not a native English speaker, but that is when he should be told some things don't work as well in English. Die hard man sounds like a megaman character as an example. Again, guy is a creative genius, not the best with writing dialogue though.

I saw this thread title and immediately thought of Broken Helix.

I tried looking for a sound bite of any of the myriad wonderful one liners in this game but since only like 14 people ever played the game the interwebs are light on options :( And, I don't recall the game having any subs at all so no useful screen captures.

The main character is voiced by Bruce Campbell. If that's not enough to get you play the game and find a quotable quip or 2 then I guess you are missing out.
