Port Megadrive port of Metal Gear is out.

I'm glad it's not the port of the awful pseudo-Metal Gear game on NES. I still cannot believe but I understand there are people who prefer the NES game over the games on MSX2 lol.

i wonder what was bad with the NES port of Metal Gear...
As a Metal Gear game, it was nothing like the original game. The original designer wasn't involved. It's rather a nonsense remake.

As a video game I can write a book but I'll only mention the fundamentals of why the game is bad. Forget it's a Metal Gear game and focus the game in its own context and see how the developer lacked vision and had a stroke: The game make it seem like it's a stealth game but it's not.

You are thrown out of the plane without any gun but a cigarette so you can commit suicide lol. You just punch your way through an unknown army until you find a gun. You even have to beat digital guard dogs. Don't be fooled because enemy sleeps, when you get close they attack and level design is intentionally in the way there is no way to walk around them to avoid detection. This is a stealth mission, and also a tactical espionage beat 'em up video game lol.

The way to find a weapon can make any kid go bald because every time the screen change enemy respawns. For example you punched a guy who stood next to a truck to make him stop existing and then entered into truck and were amazed how big the size of the truck is. Why it's not smaller? You spend a minute walking just to get an item and get out. But NES is a powerful machine, it's so powerful the enemy you just made stop existing came into existence again to take his revenge. You just got out and within one second the enemy machine guns you and you die. It's your fault because you didn't memorize the game yet. It's time for you to activate your higher neurons so you can gain the ability of god-like pattern detection and think 100 steps ahead, kid. Good luck until you find a gun, or you'll have to punch Metal Gear to complete your stealth mission lol.

Why wasn't a gun given in the first place then? Why the forced beat 'em up? They didn't give you a gun to hide your relation to your military unit so what makes sense is beating everything that attacks you by facing being captured and tortured until they get answers out of you. Everyone breaks. This is so funny when one of your teammate is captured, because they threw him into enemy without a gun lol. And then when you find a gun you can shoot your way around because it's their gun, not our gun. So smart. This is a stealth mission but not a stealth game. It's a tactical espionage beat 'em up game... until you find a gun lol.

Original Metal Gear wasn't like that at all. It's a stealth game and correctly designed as one. You can even hide under boxes just to hide your presence. NES one is not a stealth game. It acts like one but is suffering from poor vision and lack of common sense. They thought Metal Gear is all about a soldier punch his way out of the enemy army lol. They didn't even give you any ability to be able to dodge bullets like Contra games. You just gotta take the bullets like a man. Prove how solid you are, kid lol.

Kinda off-topic but I wonder why is itch.io a hub for new retrogames? I always thought that github was a more known platform.

Anyways, cheer to the dev(s).
