so anyone know if its truly safe?

Assuming this was taken from the Sonic Fangame HQ's link and brought here, then it should be safe, but here's the source of the game download just in case. As for the mod, I would rather wait until Zashiko actually provides the source code (which he has to) so we can actually see that he is actually being sincere about learning from his idiotic idea of DRM'ing and putting spyware in a free fan game that he did not make.

Going by what the situation has unfold with this video below, it *seems* like Zashiko might have realized copying Sonic Gather Battle's idea of spying on people over a game he didn't make himself (or any piece of software for that matter) is a stupid idea. Sadly until we see the source code of this modded version of the game, which he has to disclose as per license agreements by Alysson DaPaz and Godot Engine is an open source game engine yet Zashiko so far still made this mod completely closed source, so I'm still keeping my distance from it until we truly know what's going on.

like I said, the one I downloaded is working just fine, but again, its up to whoever wants to take the risk. That being said, I do Agree that we should just keep the original apk that was dumped here and only update for the modded one if it does prove to be safe.
For those who are interested though, you can probably find it on youtube, but be careful.
Run it through an antivirus before playing it.

There has been a new development in the scene, though I can't say 100% if its true.
so someone grabbed the drm infested version of the game and through the means of descompilation (?) was able to remove it from the game and produce a new version of the game with zahiro's mod.
I downloaded it already and it seems to be working fine, with no red flags whatsoever, but I'd wait a little longer just to be on the safe side.
but yeah, new version does not ask for a log in or anything like that.

PSA: If you see videos showing a mod that inserts Zero and Axl into the demake by Zashiko, DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT! It is basically pulling what Sonic Gather Battle did and includes intrusive DRM and spyware that spies on your computer and will gather information on your machine!

There is a guy who did make the Zero and Axl mods for the demake but not sure how updated they are since they are locked behind his Discord server and any invites to it have expired.

That's very cool actually if we can access eventually, I saw an interview with the developer that he said he was very concerned in keeping the scope of the project concise so he would be able to finish it, this is why there is only x gameplay.

It would be good if in a future update of this demake you can play with Zero and Axl and also the Female Maverick Hunters such as Alia, Palette and Layer although that is already a lot to ask for the community but hey.

Only X is playable but it does have controller support.

This is a Great Alternative Version in case you feel a little disappointed by the original PS2/PC (2004-05) version then this version of Mega Man X8 Demake (2024) is recommended for you.
