I just finished X3 and started X4 and holy hell, this is the first game I ever played where the freakin' LEVEL SELECT got me hyped.

I love how X is just so pissed and ready for action, the music is awesome, and I feel like this is going to be the most badass Mega Man game ever.

It's hard to find a Mega Man X game that doesn't have good music. Wait until you play as Zero, his first level music is epic.

This game is one of my all time faves.

I remember being so excited when I got to the character select screen. The first time in the series where we had a character select screen. It still gets me excited today in a nostalgic way.

X4 really set a new standard; that standard arguably quickly faltered with X5 and X6, and the less said about X7 the better (but Alcediez' patches/tweaker do a lot to salvage X5 and X6 in particular.

X4 was the last entry where they didn't mess with the formula in stupid ways. They just gave us something that we all wanted, a playable Zero. That's it.

After that we got X5's random generator bullshit, X6 with its nightmare virus/reploid saving crap, and X7 which I actually don't hate as much as some people do but it's mix of 2d/3d gameplay obviously rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Even the Mega Man X Legacy Collections had to add another dumb gimmick with the 1 vs 2 boss fight mode.

Like just give us classic Mega Man X gameplay with classic 2d sprite work. We don't need all of the gimmickry.

X4 is easily my favourite game in the franchise.
the sprites? impecable (the cutscenes with the hilarious VA are chef kiss)

the music? ALL tracks are banger what can i say.

the gameplay? feels great to control and it has the right amount of challenge IMO. (also wait until you play zero, he is so fun to control).

My only caviat if i where to really look for it, would be that megaman's power ups while cool on paper arent really that usefull (which i honestly think about for a lot of the games)

regardless i hope you have a lot of fun!

The only major flaw this game has in my opinion gameplay wise is how easy it is, minus the difficulty spike of the final boss cause shit man, overcompensating much?

At the same time, as omeone with a heavy 9 to 5, i actually prefer easier games since it is well.............easy to come back to them. I don't think i would have become a Mega Man fan if i started playing them at 20 years old instead of 7.

It's all about how you play it. I did a no damage playthrough with Zero with no heart tanks, no energy tanks, and no boss weaknesses and I was pretty happy with the challenge that I got out of it. I also think the difficulty of the game for every player may depend on which character they use. Zero is supposedly the advanced option, but I actually find X more annoying to play as. It's hard to go back to holding a button down constantly for charge shots after using someone who can just attack at a moment's notice.

The game's only flaw is the voice acting, and that's only relevant to the US version, not a flaw of the game's original release. Some people love the bad voice acting, I'm not one of those types personally. I celebrated when Koji Igarashi released Symphony of the Night on the PSP with a new dub, script, and even the option to play in Japanese with subtitles. I wish Mega Man X4 could get a release like that.

Literally the first game that got me into the Rockman bandwagon. It's quite easy for the series standards and still be challenging enough that you can't just beat it in one sitting unless you're a hardcore gamer.

And yeah, playing with Zero beats everything else with the HU HA HUO and Japanese skill names, truly peak weebshit.

I love most of the X games.
I got to play them in order and they were damn amazing.
I would love if they made another X game.

Nice that they did an undub version, though they retained the English script.
Eg Zero in Japanese in the beginning says "kso" (shit) and in the undub they kept the "damn" instead

I was playing the Sega Saturn port of X4 last night. I always played it on PS1 and thought I'd mix it up. Boy those FMVs are crusty as hell on the Saturn lmao

Been a sec since Ive given X4 a proper run. Always takes me a bit to get used to the dash in the PS1 games when revisiting them (im more used to the SNES dash).
Despite that adjustment period, I have a lot of praise for X4.

i still need to play it lol

The setup for the final boss fight when playing the game as Zero is one of the best, pre-final boss fight moments I've ever seen.
