Mega Man Megathread

As somebody who tried to get A ranks for EX skills, that's just wrong.
For real? I found out that if you beat the level fast enough, getting hit doesn't affect you as much. Granted, this is if you beat the intro level with an S rank and by the time you finish all main stages, your rank will drop to B but you will have the EX skills anyway.

I was browsing through here and just want to say that I was such a huge dork for Mega Man as a kid, especially the X series.

But I see the usual nonstop Mega Man X7 hate that claims that it's the worst in the series, and I think it's still deserved, BUT WE GOTTA GIVE X7 A BREAK!

Sure, it's bad. Sure, it's a disaster for most of it. It even sucks. It's a stupid game with stupid bosses and it tops it all off with a stupid plot.

BUT I think X6 is worse just because it's boring. At least X7 is funny bad and it even shoots for the stars and tries doing something new. I mean, it does it all poorly, but it's something!

I know there's a big speedrunner following for X6 and it's weirdness since there's so many tricks you can pull off with it, BUT X7 HAS SOUL!

I think X6 > X7.... The best thing about X7 was it's trailer.

I loved the X series especially X4. I was so excited for X7 but when I came to playing it I couldn't bring myself to finish it or even getting halfway through it. Boring, and terrible design, annoying enemies, unsatisfying controls and game mechanics, motion isn't fluid at all. Slow and clunky in a bad way.
Capcom made brilliant 3d Megaman games a few years earlier, Legends 1 and 2. And to be honest those were large scale games with a focus on story, but even so, the combat was way better and smoother and faster. The X games are supposed to have much better combat, made up of short levels meant to be bursting with great visuals, music and smooth, slick and challenging gameplay. It's totally unacceptable that X7 came out the way it did. Even hitting with the Z saber felt so clumsy, it was a terrible transition to 3d.

At least movement in X6 felt smooth and slick, fast and satisfying combat. Music was decent. And it didn't feel like a chore.

But having said all this, I once again recall the excitement from seeing the trailer, and I will give X7 another chance :) will report back once I try it again

HAPPY BASS DAY!!!

Let's spend this day celebrating the best boy! I think Bass deserves a bouquet of flowers, even if he's a little embarrassed about it...

(Totally not me spending so much time drawing Bass and then forgetting to draw flowers in the bouquet, lol.)

I tried reading the entire thread, but 36 pages is a lot to go through.. I don't know if anyone brought up the Zero series in depth, seems people prefer Classic and X, no problem as Classic is also good, X, outside of the 1st game, I find it to be aquired taste.

Anyways, Zero in the Zero games is a completely different individual from the X games, just wanted to point that out inxase it hasn't been stated.

As per the radio drama, Wile stole the original body and either replaced the physical robot brain with one that contains the Omega personality or reprograms him to become Omega, I cannot remember the specifics of this.

But X had already backed up Zero's mind for study and basically defragment it's partitions to find a cure for the virus that originated from Zero.

Because they currently have a rampaging Zero body with no conscience or morality, X comissioned a duplicate of Zero's body, as close as they can get atleast, and installed the backup mind of Zero into the reploid body.

This is partially why he has amnesia in the games, the memories have been defragmented more than once, perhaps countless times in simulation, along with personality profiles, and this is before even booting him up for the elf wars.

----

This part is more my headcanon than anything else, in Zero 4, the opening shows a blueprint of Zero's reploid body, it looks very similar to the Original Rockman's body.

My theory is that since it is X who had comissioned the body's creation, he may have taken his own blueprints as a basis, either thst or some of his own technology made it's aay into Zero's new body.

I'm pretty sure the blueprints look similar to Mega Man's body because it IS Mega Man's body.

Pretty much this. The headcanon is like someone said “I bet Clark Kent and Superman are the same person because they look similar”.

I'm a long time Mega Man fan. Since i was 10 y.o. My favourite Mega Man is Mega Man 2, but i loved Mega Man 1 and X too. How much time i spent on this games only god knows... the same god i used to "call" while i was playing :loldog if you know what i mean...

i dream of a new mega man x game made by me with an infinite budget that seeks to not scream in the throes of grotesque mutilation but a sincere want for a future
imagine a new megaman x game in which playing as zero resulted in something fresh
when zero was introduced as a proper playable character in mmx4 with his own campaign it was so exciting with new moves to unlock in a time in which megaman still felt like a franchise that was not content with totally remaining in its skin. similarly to the excitement when playing the very beautiful and exciting original megaman x
imagine playing a new megaman x game, one granted the same kind of budget and polish as a resident evil or monster hunter title, with truly new concepts in it
i think of the beauty speed and action of megaman x and think of what a modern x game could be if it translated that beauty speed and action to modern hardware while pushing that hardware to its limits

Mega Man has definitely been one of my most favorite game series alongside Sonic so glad to see the lil guy get his own dedicated thread. Anyways, My favorite games in the franchise are Mega Man Powered Up, Mega Man 7, Mega Man Zero 3, and Mega Man Battle Network 3. Also my favorite robot masters are Gravity Man, Turbo Man, Blast Man, and Elec Man.

I have never been diagnosed with autism, but I may very well act like it if I could direct my dream Zero game.

>animated opening like 8, X4 and Maverick Hunter X
>condenses and speedruns the core plot of Zero 1-4 into one game
>get rid of cyberelves and cyberspace in the plot and gameplay
>instead find upgrades like in X1
>Zero can now crouch and guard with the Z-saber
>other weapons are obtained after defeating bosses, this includes the buster
>getting an A rank and higher get EX skills
>finishing the game unlocks other playable characters such as X and classic Rockman
>depending on the character you play as, affects the final boss
>X gets Sigma, classic Rockman gets Wily, etc
>stage select is a reference to the first rockman game
>mini bosses are the other animal bosses from Zero 1-4
>crafting from Zero 4 to get mod chips
>tower is split into 4 stages
>tower bosses are the actual yellow devil (fights like in Mega Man Power Battle), Copy X (both forms), Omega (all forms), Wile (both forms) in this order
>unlockable boss rush mode
>unlockable survival mode
>unlockable time attack / score attack mode
>sprite work and animation on the level of X6
>secret discs also explain unanswered lore and trivia
>1up item looks like a helmet like in Rockman 8
>helmet matches the character you play as

I'll probably sound dumb right now, but what's "Poochy-type character" supposed to mean?
I think in Maverick Hunter X Vile is a decent parallel for Bass.

Fake-kun i think i spent an hour trying to figure why i cant respond to wall posts or do messages. Wanted to say thank you from a person of great taste to another. I also think i have an image you can add to the campaign. I know hes not front and center but I crop it for my profile on other sites. Godspeed.

Thank you! This is a great image. I'm always glad to see other Bass appreciators.

Megaman legends is one of my favourites game but I've not come across anything quite like it, except the sequel, (which wasn't quite as good imo.)
Does anyone have recommendations for games that are similar to either of the legends games?

Apparently, Ian’s OWN podcast partner shits on Ian TOO!!

I was watching a video about a series of bootlegs called Zook, and there's this alternate art for the game Zook Hero 2 aslo known as Rockman D3(?!).

I wonder what the hell is going on with Zero.

i honestly enjoyed my first playthrough of x7 more than any other x game, and while that has changed and i would no longer consider it good, i still feel like people treat it too harshly.

like whenever i see gameplay, people barely ever dash for some reason, you're supposed to dash whenever you're not firing, the gameplay is built around switching between evasion and offense. you might argue that it does so badly, but i feel like it's a factor that most people miss.

also i still like flame hyenard as a character, he is scrimblo.

I would argue that if most players can't figure out the right way to play the game from the game itself, then the game is poorly designed.
