Mega Man Megathread

BN and SF are really, really not spin-offs. Not only are they set in their own universe, they don't even share gameplay style with the rest of the franchise.
They are spin-offs if they are set in a parallel timeline/universe and have a different gameplay style then.

The entire point of spin-offs is to offer a different gameplay or version of the characters.

I'm envious of people like you who can be wrong so confidently.

There are mods for Axl and Zero too

They're not different versions of the characters. They're fundamentally different characters with a vague resemblance to and the same names as the originals. "Same characters" ends with the trio of doctors. Is Dragon Quarter a Breath of Fire spinoff? Is Tokyo Mirage Sessions: FE a Megami Tensei or Fire Emblem spinoff? Spinoff also connotes that the works are insubstantial or unimportant. These are full, legitimate branches of the Mega Man franchise.

How is this wrong? You've literally given us the definition of that term:

- Not set in the main series' timeline (therefore non canon to the mainline franchise)
- Have a different gameplay (therefore not a platformer).

It's like how Puyo Puyo is a spin-off to Madou Monogatari or how Warioware is to Wario Land by not being linked to Mario nor the Wario Land games outside of references.

Hyrule Warriors is another one since it isn't a "The Legend of Zelda" game of the Zelda franchise.

Wasn't Tokyo Mirage Sessions sold as a crossover game? These are basically not really canon to either franchises. Persona started as a Megami Tensei spinoff before becoming its own series after all.

I would say that Dragon Quest Monsters is a spin-off series since they're not numbered titles either, that's what spin-offs are about.

Somebody refutes you, and instead of properly engaging with their argument, you just latch on to a random thing that's not even remotely relevant. Typical.

What do you mean by typical? Either way spinoff doesn't mean it's necessarily canon (although some may be but they're rare) therefore if the game has a different gameplay and isn't related to the mainline entires it is one.

The main wiki page literally says:
Mega Man Battle Network is a tactical role-playing video game series created by Masahiro Yasuma and developed and published by Capcom as a spin-off of the Mega Man series.

PS: Why are you saying typical?

Because it's typical of you. And you don't need to repeat yourself twice.

@fake-kun @Ikagura with all due respect
Could you guys go like two days without barking semantics at each other lol
Whether intentionally or not you just bring down the mood by managing to aggro each other all the time over the tiniest of disagreements.

Spin-off, subseries, who gives a shit, it really is clear as day what one is meaning regardless of which word they use, it's completely pointless to make a chicken out of a feather like this.

Speaking of MegaMan, I had quite few fun memories playing X Dive. The thing I've taken a liking the most were the collab banners the game had, specifically the monster hunter ones with the many different Armor designs that had. DMC also had Armor designs which I like those too. Such a shame that these weren't in the Offline version of X Dive.

Oh before I forget to mention this, I remember when X dive was still doing live streams one of the stream hosts was rolling for Gore iCO but ended up getting Sigma instead and gave out a live stream code in frustration. This was pretty funny that happened.

I also have good memories of X dive, I remember that I had to wait for the global version to come out to play it xdddddd. also the excitement when I got an S rank character.
And yes, the collaboration banners were great, my favorite was with Street Fighter.
