Mega Man : You need to adopt a strategy and plan your every move to progress through the game , get past the various obstacles and enemies. Tight controls , clean hitboxes, predictable enemy patterns, and sharp mechanics make it satisfying to master , not unfair. No wonder that only those with superior intelligence and refined tastes can enjoy this game. Also Based character design.

Sonic : It's supposed to focus on speed , but the gameplay often punishes speed. You want to run but then you slam into spikes, enemies, or fall into pits and that's because it's entirely based on trial and error, you have to memorize the different levels, but that doesn't encourage anyone to do so when the design is so bad it breaks the rhythm of the game between the speed and precision platforming sections. The blue hedgehog mascot is supposed to be edgy, but it appeals more to furries than anything else.

And finally we have Mario, a universally accessible baby game made to amuse manchilds with “BING BING wahoo” Mario voices without any substance or depth to the gameplay. If I had to sum up the game, it's literally a hand-holding ride. I guess that's cool for those who just want to have fun with their families.

That concludes my review of the day, and I hope you enjoyed it.

Peace out

Ah, a pretentious fart. Are you gonna specify which Mario & Sonic games are bad? The Sonic Genesis games don't have bad level designs and the NES Mario games are kinda challenging so I don't understand this "baby game" bs.

I've been playing through every single mega man game recently and ranking all of the bosses into a tier list. There are some really great games in there and some incredible encounters that really scratched that need for challenge. Everything you've said about Mega Man is pretty apt but I have two issues with the other stuff.

Firstly, why even compare them? Most people won't vibe with MM because it's a little bit too hands-on for them and that's ok because the people that like that shit fuckin love that shit. It's ok that Mario and Sonic are generally a bit less challenging and a lot less focused on presenting isolating challenges (like "hey, which of these 8 guys do you wanna take on first?")

But secondly, man wtf is that sonic take. You're literally living in the past. Yeah Sonic 1 was pretty stop and start - good thing that made a couple of sequels dunno if you noticed? But also, Sonic doesn't reward blindly running forward you're right - it rewards learning a route and/or rapid reaction times - which are two things you'd probably need if you were running super fast. The first sonic game... yeah pretty dog water, but your complaints have been addressed like 30 years ago (and then they made a bunch of shit ones after that but like that doesn't help my argument)

At least specify which Mario or Sonic games you had in mind, it's easy to say Sonic 1 fits with that description, but S3&K? Or what about which Marios?

But I'll have to agree with that Mega Man description, it's just true.

The Mega Man take I agree with but not the Sonic one. Have you only played Sonic 1 or Sonic Advance 3? Because those are the only 2 Sonic games that fit your description, and even then it's only Marble Zone that fits that Sonic 1 description.

I've just read all your answers. In another topic, I'll put forward arguments to debunk Sonic once and for all.

Not comparable. Mario and Sonic are pure platformers, where jumping is the core element. So you can compare them directly to each other. Mega Man is action-platformer, where fighting/shooting/etc. is more important than jumping. It's a different genre. I don't even like pure platformers anymore, but I'm a fan of action platformers. I don't like Mega Man though, the pea shooter feels too weak and enemies take too many shots, among other issues.

In Sonic they amp you up to get going fast and then place a hazard or enemy right in your way so you get hit and slow down. How not fun.

In Mario you have a couple options for attacks; jumping and shooting fireballs. Doesn't matter which you choose, doesn't matter what path you take but you can also skip most of the levels if you want, making it incredibly easy.

In Megaman you're rewarded for clever, outside the box thinking and given a range of options to approach every situation in every entry in the series.

You can't "debunk" a game, lol, it's not a theory. Someone either has fun or some other rewarding feeling when playing a game or doesn't. No argument can change that.

Although the sonic thing I feel like you kind of exaggerated with your point of view that focuses more on speed than on gameplay, which is not so true, but if it is in the age of 3D, well, I can understand the point and the Mario that is accessible but to say that it is for babies is already an exaggeration because there are also Mario games that are for ages 10/12 and up and I'm too lazy to mention them and you also say that Mario games are easy when there are also ones that are difficult like Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (1986) and that is reflected in the design of the levels but well it's your point of view and it's respected no matter how exaggerated it is.

Sounds like someone didn't ever play Fire Man's stage in Megaman 1. 👀

Have fun getting through Ice Man's stage without the Magnet Beam. ::winkfelix

You made no point. Mega Man is more about fighting than jumping overall, Mario and Sonic are mainly about jumping.

The take of someone who either never played Megaman or..
Well, I don't know actually. I don't see how you would ever think it didn't involve precise platforming skills.

i played these games for the first time this year and all i did was run and jump past most enemies, there is no planning. Especially when they respawn after 2 steps back.
The stages people say are "tough" like Air man stage are pretty basic and easy actually

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing that it's amazing for it's platforming gameplay or saying that the platform jumping is any better than any other game, but it is a game that revolves around it, and there's really no avoiding it even with the magnet beam. Sayin Megaman isn't about platforming is like saying RGT isn't about video games. It's just wrong.
