I would like to hear what is that you look for in a game or anime/manga.
If you are looking for something more realistic in terms of tone, i would say an anime like Votoms is a good choice. War between humans and with the same robots but the protagonist is broken af. In terms of games, the Front Mission Series is a good one, and you have 5 games and a mnaga which is translated in english
If you are looking for more interesting stuff that is not so real world, i would recommend the getter robo MANGA series. It's a great series, and it gets very interesting in Go and Shin. You have 5 "Arcs"

Sadly the author passed away and Arc is not finished but it's still pretty good
Any show by Tomino is interesting, sometimes not that great, but interesting. You should check Zambot 3 or Ideon.
And if you are looking for hype stuff, check out the Super Robot Wars Original Generation games for ps2, you don't need previous knowledge and they are pretty great. The have a lot of reading with strategic battles in between.
In terms of anime, there is a lot, but a short and good series is Gunbuster, 6 episodes OVA. Great Show with female protagonist and two amazing last episodes.
I might be able to recommend more, but it's hard when i don't know you hehe. Hope you check anything out of what i said.

this isn't too much focus on mecha but Zegapain is my favourite of all time
the ED is so fucking good and the lyrics send chills all the time, it goes perfectly with the theme and atmosphere of the show

sadly it got overshadowed by Geass but that's okay, cos it has way more value than it nowadays with all the milking they've done

We could sit here listing our favorites for hours and walls of text here but we need some feedback. What kind of mech are you into? Super fast an agile? Acrobatic melee fighters? Bombastic Super Robots? Hard science fiction, military mechs? Or even a bit of fantasy? There are many MANY types of mecha franchises out there. My recommendation is pick up one (any of them) Super Robot Wars game, and go through the story for a bit, and then look more into whatever mecha characters caught your attention. The correct answer will always be "which one did YOU find the coolest?"

on my own personal bias, I strongly recommend you watch the original Gundam, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and right this week I am on a massive Battletech binge, for very grounded, military, big stompy robots.

Megaton-kyuu Musashi may seem very cliche but it's an anime I can say that definitely has soul, which is something anime nowadays don't really have. It's pretty low-rated most probably cos of the animation and the latter reason, but if you're into the old style burning-passionate type of main character leading the group, this is a good modern pick.

The selling point is the amazing CG and crazy attacks they come up with, and for me, the story too.

Danball Senki (sure the mecha are the size of action figures but I say it counts) it also has 2 sequel seasons, Danball Senki W and Danball Senki Wars.

It also had some video games but the best versions were on the 3DS and only one was released in the west as LBX: Little Battlers eXperience but it was known in Japan as Danball Senki Baku BOOST. The other two are Danball Senki W Chou Custom and Danball Senki Wars.

Sorry im not used to forums. Im trying to figure out what i like. For sure i like series that gives some more details about the mechs. Like evangelion and gundam, shows that describes what you're piloting intrigue me. I recently started buying model kits for gunplas, though i have never watched the show i just like the models. Sorry for the late response.
