I think an RGT Discord server is a nice idea.
Fair enough. People on Discord can be very toxic.deleting my discord account was the best thing i ever did, i came back a few times and each time i realized it was a mistake, had to burn myself a few times and now i know its not worth it and never going back on that platform again. its just a huge waste of time, and it brings out the worst in me.
Honest question: why would we, as a forum community, need a Discord server in the first place?I wouldn't mind a revival. Yeah, the last one didn't end up great but think about it, it technically was beaten to death due to one singular moderation issue, and when that reached the attention of the forum, it was brought with so much negative feedback that closing it was inhevitable. I still think to this day that the users on here a significantly weird bias against that site when the others also have a fair share of their own issues, as well.
if a new server were to happen, a great suggestion were to add some of the mods that run this site over there or find different people, and in the case of a moderation fault, then you just deal with it in an appropriate fashion, and that's it.
It was quite funny that you've mentioned this cause earlier when I was brainstorming ideas for my indie game, I thought of taking a different approach to having a community and instead of just plugging a discord server and calling it a day, I was thinking, "What if I've used XenForo instead?" and even had some ideas thinking how it'll be one of the primary ways I can share updates on whatever I'm working on as well as being a forum for retro games similar to this one.Honest question: why would we, as a forum community, need a Discord server in the first place?
Besides that, it would likely reduce user interaction on the forum itself. Conversations would move off the forum, which goes against the purpose of keeping them active and in one place.
If people want to play together and need real-time communication, they can still create their own servers for that purpose.
Overall, I don’t think this is a good idea.
Most people here wouldn’t care enough to join it even if the moderation was stronger than Goku. There’s also a lot of strengths the site has that Discord inherently lacks. There’s no side bar telling you who has a birthday that day, no free banners, no little pop up on the side window of a preview of the newest translation to hit the Repo, no profile styles, no forum menu that has people’s status posts that you can freely reply to, and we can go on really. I don’t think a Discord would bring in new people either, the forums already do that well. The forums being connected to the repository is something Discord can’t do seamlessly, you’d need a link, so staying here is convenient.I wouldn't mind a revival.
