Marvel Rivals - Dev Team laid off

Gaming industry is a joke.

No you don't get it, the pure-hearted lovely and fantastic execs have a financial duty to make bread!

There's a reason game quality is going down on average these days, why try to make something worthwhile when no matter the result you're still gonna get fired so the big boys at the top can get their tax writeoffs?

I have a friend who's an artist and who has previously worked for the industry, resulting on her seeing her work get put into a game before finishing college... She naturally thought that she had made it.

She's now doing freelance and commission work because the games industry is such a joke that she can't even put that past work in her resume.

I bet some corporate types at top are keeping most of the money

Unmarvelous news.

The game industry has always been volatile but dev teams being laid off after relatively successful launches is crazy. Something is rotten in Denmark, as they say.

I thought this game was doing well.
The Western Video Game industry really is beyond salvation. I hope these filthy fucking Corporate Demons lose all of their money and end up having to beg on the fucking street for pennies.

Its suffering from the same problem the movie industry's got.

Too big to feed itself effectively, if it ain't a massive absolute genre defining hit, its quite likely, it won't make its money back, breaking even is not an option.

I do like to see the industry collapse, gaming needs another crash before it can get better.

That makes just about zero sense. I guess the publishers were in dire straits and had no choice? or more likely, they noticed they could sustain the game with a smaller dev team. Absolute nonsense.

This is published by a Chinese company, no?

Agreed. The collapse of the Music, Movie and Video Game industries can't come soon enough.

It's the first concern I've really had about Rivals since it released. It was handling so many different things so well and they were even listening to feedback avidly... but this is pretty horrid.
