Retro gaming veterans, need your advice.
Do you know any good cooperative games based on Marvel comics universe?
Like Avengers, Spider-man, X-Men, those series. Preferably something before 6th gen era with 2D graphics.
I know there are plenty of fightings 1x1, but looking for PvE specifically.
So far I have found only this title: https://retrogametalk.com/repository/snes-rom/venom-•-spider-man-separation-anxiety-usa/
I didn’t try it yet, just someone commented the second player could be added by applying the patch, though nothing I have found on romhacking.net.

What else could you recommend, maybe some hacks?

These are absolute blast to play in 4 players.
Can confirm. They're quite possibly some of the best Marvel games out there (outside of some of the Spiderman games of course).

Thirding Ultimate Alliance or X-Men Legends- they're absolute classics.
There's also Maximum Carnage, which was the sequel sort of to Seperation Anxiety.
The Punisher arcade game is great two players.

Other than OpenBOR you should check out arcade beat'em ups that Konami and Capcom cranked out in the 90s.

I thought that Maximum Carnage was the first game… Is it really 2 players? Would like to try it, when I get back to my emulation laptop.

Unfortunately, that old piece of junk burns into flames while running PCSX2… I’d be super happy with some older than PS2 Marvel games or bootlegs, or hacks.

Will check out on The Punisher, thanks. I remember NES game, it was amazing.
Maybe there are some more games ported from arcade with multiplayer support?
RGT doesn’t host arcade roms, at least I haven’t seen such.

Thank you all for your suggestions anyway!

Surprisingly, there’s a list of all “official” Marvel games on the Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Games

If we look for Arcade released titles and ports, excluding versus fighting, there is not much left really…

Spider-Man: The Video Game (4 players!)
Captain America and The Avengers (2 players)
X-Men (4 players!)
The Punisher (2 players)

The Avengers has a very good colour restoration hack for Sega Genesis.
X-Men also exists as fan made Saturn port for 3 players. Both on RGT repo, very nice!

As for other home console games of 90s, aside from Separation Anxiety, only one else I could confirm is Fantastic Four (would be disappointed if it was less then 4P coop).

Now I eager to launch MAME for the first time…

The iron man ps1 game has co-op I'm pretty sure i played throughit that way. Fantastic Four on ps1 definitely does. I think the first X Men games on both nes and Genesis do.

Wow, Iron Man dedicated game! Have to check it out.

Tried both X-Men and X-Men 2: Clone wars on Genesis and can confirm they have 2P support.
The NES game is technically 2 players as well, but it looks… em, too ugly, sorry.

Pretty nice list I’ve got so far! ::cool

I don't really have a problem with how it looks, but you aren't missing anything. the game itself isn't any good although I have played through it before.

the iron man game is interesting because it's a crossover game with XO-Manowar which isn't even a Marvel character but one from Valiant comics. I've always found the existence of it weird but I personally thought it was a fun little game.

Thanks to this thread I have discovered that Sega library has some cool titles and ports.
Prior to this I have seen only Mortal Kombat on Mega Drive at my friend’s flat in the olden days.

I had NES clone in my childhood, my very first and the last (sigh) gaming console. Now trying to keep up to fill the gap and explore the others.

X-men The Clone Wars for SEGA MD/Genesis is my favorite Marvel game of the 16bit era
