Cool. I'd say this is strictly for Macross fans as a neat side story of apparently known characters. The game is pretty bad, I don't get the rating. The controls are too simplistic (with 3 unused buttons at that, so it's not like they simplified it out of necessity, other giant robot games on Dreamcast do a lot better), everything from the AI to the mission and gameplay design is rigid with no nuance or depth, but it's quite short so worth checking out once for the story bits. If you've played Gundam: Rise from the Ashes, itself a decent with some neat production values but not exactly amazing classic of a game, this is nowhere near that. It's not even as good as it can seem in gameplay footage (it looks like Armored Core in ground missions for example but sadly you shouldn't expect it to be like that) before you play and see how simplistic and plain it is. Virtual-On, Tech Romancer, Gundam vs. and Rise from the Ashes is where it's at for giant robots on DC. And Bangai-O!​

Among all the Macross games I've played, I haven't had the chance to play this one but it looks good even with the English translation from the community that makes it more curious.

Its literally been a lot of years but I seem to remember being frustrated with the gameplay in the beginning stages

VFX and VFX-2 were good but never played this one.
Hope the ones on PS1 can get a translation but I don't see a way to add text to the cutscenes that are only voice acting performances.

The first VF-X I could never get past a particular stage I think it was ae desert stage or something. Really annoying. Must have been some specific instruction that I couldnt figure out because Japanese. VFX-2 I managed to get further until an annoying underwater mission.
