do any of your minds contain memories from far off involving this game? originally releasing in 2004 only in korea, mabinogi was and is a massively multiplayer online role playing game with an emphasis on peaceful life skills as well as the tradiational combat skills found in role playing games
to my surprise, i recently found out the original game is still going strong, with a smaller but dedicated userbase
additionally the game is being converted from its original 2004 code to the unreal engine 5. new graphics and more should be on the way in our lifetime
much love from me to you

Took a break less than a month or so ago now but before said break I did most generations up to g23 (with the exception of Saga) while getting skills to r1 or into the Dan ranks and completed two tabs which were combat and music. Still need to do more higher end content but I'll save that for later.

Other than grinding I like fashion and would dye said items to match a certain color scheme I want.

I wanted to get in to Mabinogi I mean when I tried it I had fun but it WAS soooo hard to understand how to play for me and asking people in game was a no one no one gave a fuck. I saw people chatting all the time but when ever I polity asked for help because im new. no one said jack shit for 30 min and then they started to talk again and keept ingoring me. And forget guild they only wanted level 1000 I think or was it 100 if you where not that well F you.

I will try to get back in to Mabinogi again but im waiting for that graphical overall before I do that.

i am sad to hear that you had such an experience as it is my experience that mabinogi was the best experience i had playing a multiplayer game for the first time - i made so many friends and everyone was so forthcoming and talkative and kind

does it have expansions or are the in game purchases just a pay2fast type of deal?
i wanted to get into horizon but its kinda really slow for my taste even as an mmo. mabinogi looks cool but i want to know if i'll be expected to spend any money so i can keep that in mind.

mabinogi is very strange in regard to the payment model that exists
it is a free to play game
i do not believe i have seen any advertisements for the in game cash shop, to the point where i am not actually sure how to even open the cash shop
as far as i know cosmetics and items to make you level up more quickly are the only meaningful things you optionally pay for as far as microtransations - all story content from 2004 to today is free and all locations and landmasses in the game are free
the game does not feature anything like a traditional expansion pack, all the story content is via periodic free updates
in summary it is a very 'try it and see how you like it' type game since only your time is at stake

ok i'll give it a shot see how it goes

I give it a go a couple of months ago, it was really good even today. The art style is unique and the game seems fun so far (I just got a couple of hours tbh), the systems are... unique, so it takes a while to understand them.

I would like to play more, but on linux is a pain in the ass to run, and idk why but they have the game blocked almost everywhere on Steam. I hope that, with Eternity, they make a proper full global release.

i saw you mention having issues with linux before so i gotta ask why not just install windows and dual booth with the sole intent of gaming?

I just despise Windows, just thinking on having it is just icky for me. I still dual booted my PC when I was testing the waters with Linux, and somehow (from what I read, it was, probably, responsible) windows fucked up my WiFi drivers. I tried a VM, but if Im going to do all that hassle for Mabigoni, I just prefer to fight a little with Heroic Launcher and play it on my main OS.

I usually run Mabinogi through Lutris using WineGE on Linux.

I wish. Add this to the nearly infinite list of things I would have loved at the time but had no idea they existed. Now there's Ai, but back then if you couldn't search it you couldn't find it unless you had ways of searching tangentially. I was too busy playing PangYa online with my friends at the time. It looks cool though.

very excited for mabinogi eternity! ive played off & on since my preteen years, never have been able to get super far into it as every time i come back it usually takes a few weeks to understand all the systems again

still thinking about this cool angel statue from the first dungeon tho

you will be very pleased to know that statue is near everywhere in future dungeons and the like, in all kinds of differently coloured stone and lightings

what is the gameplay like? also do u play thru steam or a standalone launcher @bigstinkie
the nexon launcher for the game is historically a bit buggy and poorly designed, so i think generally steam is the way to go for a lot of players (the steam version is not perfect either though, sometimes the game opens halfway on your monitor and halfway off it requiring a relaunch of the game)
the gameplay dramatically differs depending on what you like to do
if you want to play peacefully you can transport goods from town to town, become a chef, farmer, tailor, fisherperson, etc
combat is generally traditional for mmos, click on the fellow to kill them with abilities in your shortcuts bar
you are not locked to any class or job and can freely play with any weapon you can find (giants cannot archery and elves cannot lance, those are the only restrictions)
so you can swap to a bow and use bow abilities on the fly or a sword and warrior abilities on the fly

this is the most talkative of the online games i have played. i think it is good to be comfortable with the idea of being social as it has many benefits

the server situation is interesting
the european servers are no more
the korean, japanese, and north american servers are still around
although korean, japanese, and north american players all tend to mingle about on other servers with alternate characters
i play on the north american server (north america has a single large server) that houses most european and american players

the game just finished installing, so maybe ill see u there (under the name Jona Ark probably)
Hope you enjoy playing the game! There is a lot of stuff to do and learn but when you first start out you can choose your talent (you aren't locked into this) to start working on. You will want a combat focused one to start with so pick whatever you find interesting.

Early on you will want to do Blaanid quests because they give a lot of free weapons, items and so on. It will also level you pretty fast. During the Blaanid quests they teach you how to do things like enchant, reforging, etc.
