Mabinogi

spike sama i bow respectfully before speaking
the games population has indeed declined over the decades, but adjustments have been made accordingly - namely, for example, the north american servers were merged into one large server, with 'channels' in the server serving as a way to prevent hundreds of players on your screen at one time (you can freely switch between channels with just two clicks after logging in)

this image i believe i took on a weekday evening - this is one of the main hub areas in the game on channel 1 of the main na server
i suppose my point being you will be swamped by players in any of the hotspots and since everyone is a chatterbox getting help for the more difficult content is very easy
for your other question - i believe there is no open pvp of any kind unless you are one of the races hated by some other race, then you can flag yourself for pvp but only for and against the races you hate honestly i don't really understand it myself
and i do not know what pk means
i hope these answered your questions

There are still plenty of people playing yes and you will see channels one to four (or five) usually busy at certain times of the day. As for PvP there no real penalty for PvP and you can challenge anyone you want anywhere or in battle arenas. Guild PvP is a thing but I don't see it often. If you are races like Elf or Giant then they are natural enemies and if you enable a certain option then you will be subject to attack from said race and their human allies at any time and anywhere.

Other than the normal PvP you can duel each others pets.

But that collab ended some time ago. Now there are some new events and summer master plan is going to come soon which would be a good time for new players to join. With the latest update to guilds it would be recommended to join one for the perks they have now.

i like it so much but had to opt out at some point (too many games), will def check out the ue5 update even tho i really dislike that engine

the ue5 update even tho i really dislike that engine
while ue5 games seem to suffer from a decided lack of performance optimization, i think almost anything would be better performance-wise than the slideshow the current game can become when a lot of players are on screen at once

i will miss this kind of old school look though i think

Mabinogi,,,,man, its been a LONG time since I played that game, I remember me and my friends playing it when I had my 1st laptop (2007?), is the server still active?

yes.
the game released in korea in 2004 and in north america/europe in 2008. the original game and original servers are still active (the eu servers were closed and eu players play on the single large na server) with the last major content update occurring around two weeks ago, with generation 27.

I tried playing years ago but as someone else mentioned there was no interest from other players* to interact with new players.
This is something that happened to me in other MMORPGs that have had a stable player base for years.
Unfortunately, this is the norm in these MMORPGs.

i do feel the need to disagree with the above - this is one of the most aggressively social mmos i have ever interacted with - i believe that even now there is nothing like a dungeon finder mechanic for the game
and anecdotally, as someone who started fresh with the game a few months ago - players are very, very happy to see any player even slightly resembling unexperience at the game
i have lost count the number of times players would pick me up, sit me on a mount, and take me places to get certain important quests finished

do any of your minds contain memories from far off involving this game? originally releasing in 2004 only in korea, mabinogi was and is a massively multiplayer online role playing game with an emphasis on peaceful life skills as well as the tradiational combat skills found in role playing games
to my surprise, i recently found out the original game is still going strong, with a smaller but dedicated userbase
additionally the game is being converted from its original 2004 code to the unreal engine 5. new graphics and more should be on the way in our lifetime
much love from me to you
This game was AMAZING back in the early 2010's. I had a really fully fleshed out account, played daily and had a lot of friends, but one day randomly in 2014 tried to log in and all my account and progress was gone. Tens of thousands of hours, just gone. Tried to reach out to customer support and they said they saw my account had existed but it was deleted so there was nothing they can do. Never looked back, never will.

Nexon is a horrible company anyway
